On this podcast, I'll share with you some stories of some dumb stuff that I did when i was growing up. And Eric was right there with me.

On this episode of the 12kyle Podcast, we'll explore the 80s & 90s and discuss some things that you might have missed. From technology, music, pop culture...this was the last generation to know what it's like to "live without the Internet." around the house music...
Music is probably one of the few things that we ALL share an interest in.
We all don't like the same music but we all like SOME form of music.
What was the first song that you ever learned? Think about that for a second...
It was probably the same song that I learned...the ABC song! We all learned our ABCs to that same song! For all of us, that was our introduction to music.
I'm not sure how things were in your house growing up...but in my house my parents always played music around the house. We had a big stereo/record player back in the day and they seemed to play music almost every day. I can remember listening to music as we got ready for school in the morning. We'd also listen to music at night before we went to bed. I was born in 1972...so I was exposed to some GREAT music. Being exposed to music early in life helped my appreciation for it later in life.
My parents were old school. My mom would play gospel music in the house on Sundays before and after church. But the rest of the week, we listened to a little bit of everything...Earth Wind & Fire, The O'Jays, Commodores, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, and Marvin Gaye...just to name a few. She would play music almost all day Saturday as we "cleaned up" the house. That always stuck with me. My dad had a great record collection. He had this one record that I grew to fall in love with. It was Hotter Than July by Stevie Wonder. The album cover stood out to me at first glance. I was only 7 yrs old but I quickly learned that this Stevie Wonder fella was pretty good. My favorite song was All I Do.
Baby just suppose I should happen to cross your mind
And by some chance a boy like me you're really been trying to find
Well let me tell you girl
Think of how exciting it would be
If you should discover you feel like me
If you should discover this dream is for two
We'll I'm gonna tell you girl
I'd light a candle every day
And pray that you'll always feel this way
And pray that our love will forever be new
'Cause all I do is think about you
Listening to it now...takes me back and makes me remember.
It also reminds me of how little music that I play around the house. When I do...it's in my headphones. I play it in the car all the time but hardly ever in the house. Maybe I should do it more in the house. You'd be surprised how your day can be changed by listening to some good music before you get your day started.
What about you? Did you listen to music in your house growing up? Do you listen now?

my top 10 video games of all time
We were having a discussion the other day on twitter. My boy, Beezy, mentioned some games that he'd put in his top 10 of video games.
It got me to thinking about what would be my personal top 10.
here's my list...
10. Coach K Basketball - Long before Ed O'Bannon sued the NCAA, this game was dope because it didn't have the players names but you KNEW who the players were. You could take that '90 UNLV squad and play against Michigan's Fab 5 from '91.
I remember I drove from Atlanta to Florida to visit my boy, Moe. We played this game all weekend. I had gotten the best of him all weekend. We decided to play one last game before it was time for me to drive back on Monday. We played before he went to work that morning. I was winning by as much as 15 pts. He makes a comeback. This dude hits a 3 pointer at the buzzer on me!!! I was PISSED!!! I demanded a rematch but he wouldn't play me because he said "he didn't want to be late to work." I drove back to Atlanta...mad as hell! That was a looooong 4 hr drive.
9. Out Run / Pole Position - two of my all time favorite driving games. Out Run was dope at the arcades.
8. Pitfall - Running through the jungle was fun, cool, and dangerous. I played this game until I mastered it
7. Street Fighter - Is there anything better than whipping somebody's ass and beating them to a bloody pulp?
6. Frogger - Why did the frog cross the road? I don't know. But this was fun
5. Mike Tyson's Punch Out / Tecmo Bowl - It took a looooong time for me to get to Mike and beat him...but I did. As far as Tecmo Bowl...the 85 Bears were unreal! So was Bo Jackson
4. Space Invaders - I spent a small fortune at the arcades on this game
3. Donkey Kong - Arguably the best "soundtrack" for a video game. Mad fun!
2. Pac-Man - the ultimate classic. Whatever the top score is...I'll beat it! Nobody can beat me...including you!
1. John Madden Football - I think I've played this game for a gazillion hours...literally. The ultimate football game

last day of school
(Deion, Kameron, Brandon & Skyler (photobombed it at the bottom)
Where did the school year go?
It feels like the school year just started a few weeks ago.
Today is the last day of the school year!!!
It was an interesting year in my house. The kids were all in their milestone grades. Brandon (7) has completed the 1st grade. He was on the Honor Roll and was named Student of the Month for the month of April for his school. Kameron (11) has completed the 6th grade. It was his first year of middle school. He made the Honor Roll for most of the year and balanced playing football last fall. Honestly, I didn't know how he'd handle the workload from his classes and practice but he got it done. Deion (14) completed his freshman year in high school. While he didn't make the Honor Roll, he adjusted to high school quicker than I thought he would. I need to re-direct his focus from girls to working harder in the classroom. He will do better next year!
The last day of school brings back many memories for me. But things are so different for these kids. We would leave school for the summer and you wouldn't see most of your friends until school started again. Nowadays with technology, these kids will keep in touch with their friends on a daily basis.
Remember when you went to camp for the summer back in the days??? You did that for a week or two and it was dope. My kids will go to summer camp every day this summer. It's fun for them but it doesn't sound like as much fun as we had.
Then...we always explored that sacred place back in our day...it was called OUTSIDE. There was nothing like being outside for HOURS at a time. Sometimes I'll send my kids outside to play in the yard only for them to come back inside 15 mins later for water or a popsicle.
There was always a big FIGHT at school on the last day of school. You could fight and get away with it because you probably wasn't going to get suspended...unless you got caught. The fight always started with somebody saying something like "I don't like _____. I've been wanting to beat her up all year. Tell her that I'm gonna get her on the last day of school." Somebody would relay the message and it'd go from there. There was always somebody trying to be Don King and they'd hype the fight up. I remember 2 girls who fought on the last day of 8th grade. I told myself that I had to see that fight because they were fighting over a boy. Well, they fought after school on the last day. Fists and hair was flying. Next thing that I know...a bra comes off and we get a glimpse of one girl's breasts!!! She was one of the finest girls in the school. And when I saw her breasts, I felt like I had just witnessed one of the best things ever!!!
Thankfully, there will be no fights at their schools tomorrow. And that's a good thing!

woman...
This is a picture of a photo.
The photo hangs on the wall at my mother's house in the house where I grew up in Florence, SC
It's been on the wall since I was about 5 yrs old.
After a recent trip to my hometown, I actually stopped and read it...then I really got the true meaning of it.
Every man should strive to have a woman...
Every female should strive to become a woman...
