stuck in the friend zone

"There is a hole in every zone." - Anonymous

This rule applies in football and basketball.

The friend zone? Not as much

What is the friend zone? The friend zone is the equivalent of the Black Hole in outer space. Once you're in there...you're stuck. I think it's damn near impossible to get out of it if you are a man. Women?? It's possible.

The good folks at Men's Health Magazine has offered a few tips about getting out of the friend zone. Try it. Let me know if it works.

Want to make your girl friend your girlfriend? Of course you do. In a study where 88 opposite-sex pairs of friends filled out questionnaires about their relationship, guys were more likely to be attracted to their female pals than the other way around, the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found.

Men were also more likely to overestimate their female friends’ attraction to them. So if you find yourself wanting to jump from the Friend Ship to the Relation Ship—see what we did there?—abide by these four strategies to make the tricky transition go as smooth as possible. (But believe us: There are still plenty of Good Reasons Not to Sleep with Her.)

1. Assess the Situation

First, is she available? “If she has a boyfriend, is just getting over someone, or is confused about what she wants, it’s a red light,” says Ian Kerner, Ph.D., sexuality counselor and author of She Comes First. “Otherwise you’ll look like you’re trying to seize an opportunity, which could leave her feeling betrayed.” If, however, you spend lots of one-on-one time together, your interactions often feel like dates, or they have a romantic energy about them, those are good signs that you could become something more than friends.

2. Test the Waters

“In conversation mention, ‘Gee, if I were dating you, I would do x, y, z,’ and see her reaction to it,” suggests Amy Laurent, relationship expert and star of Bravo’s upcoming series Miss Advised. “If it makes her uncomfortable or she laughs and says, ‘Oh stop!’ with an awkward smile, you may be crossing the boundary and need to respect that she may simply just want to be friends with you.” But if she seems genuinely interested in how you would treat her—for instance, she asks follow-up questions to your hypothetical scenario—she may already be thinking you’re boyfriend material.

3. Make a Pact

You have to know going in that there’s a risk of ruining your friendship if a relationship ultimately doesn’t work out, Laurent says. “Make a pact to not let that happen,” she adds. “If you’re going to risk a great friendship, make sure two elements—respect and communication—are always there. Because hopefully they’ll still be there and you can go back to being friends.”

4. Find the Right Moment

Telling her you want to date her while drunk and standing in the middle of a crowded bar surrounded by a group of friends: Bad idea, buddy. “Women are often very sensitive to context, so even if she feels the same way about you, she may not feel comfortable telling you in that moment,” Kerner says. Your game plan: Confess your feelings when the two of you are alone. “Make sure you’re in a fun, romantic context such as out to dinner, on a walk, or shopping together to help set the tone,” Kerner adds. “Then, depending on the situation, put your arm around her, hold her hand, or say, ‘I’m just going to do something here,’ and lean in for a kiss,” he adds. “These actions give her the opportunity to reciprocate if she feels the same way.”

He's cool. Very cool.

He's coming into his own.

For the first time in his life, he has TWO females fighting over him.

They aren't physically fighting over him but they are fighting for his "like" and "attention".

Here's the scenario...He's in class one day and he's chilling. Female #1 passes him a note. She asks him to be her boyfriend. He gladly accepts. He doesn't know what being a boyfriend means but he's cool with it b/c he likes her

A week later, he gets a note from Female #2. She tells him that he "should quit Female #1 so that SHE can be his girlfriend". He likes Female #2 more than he does #1 but he doesn't wanna hurt her feelings. As it turns out, both females were cheerleaders for his rival team. Female #2 stepped her game up by telling him that she "likes the way he dances and she likes his smile." He's flattered.

Before he can make a move, his note was snatched by his teacher.

And the teacher gave ME the note when I picked HIM (my 8yr old son, Kameron) up from school. I asked him to give me his version of the story and I almost crashed the car on our way home. I was laughing inside and trying my best not to laugh at him. It was one of the moments that I was supposed to be coaching/teaching him but I was laughing at the innocence of the moment. I liked girls when I was his age but it wasn't like this. He does it effortlessly. I asked him who did he like and he said he liked Female #2.

Him : She wants to go with me

Me : Go where?

Him : Go out

Me : Go out where?

Him : I dunno *blank stare*

This conversation (or the lackthereof) reminded me that he ain't my lil man no mo. He's growing up.

And these lil girls are growing up fast, too. Maybe too fast!

it starts here...

For me...it starts with the eyes...that's what draws me in...the main attraction of a woman. If she's got the eyes, I'm all in.

The next thing is the smile. A pretty smile has me hooked.

When you look at the opposite sex...what feature starts it for you?

We all have certain attributes that we look for in a person that we are interested in.

Some attributes mean more to us than others.

Some people are big on looks. Others are big on personality. Some are big on education...

I recently had conversation with an old college buddy who expressed his frustration with me about his wife's education...or lack thereof. He has been married for a few years and he knew that she only had a high school diploma. He has a college degree. His frustration has come because she has no intentions of pursuing a degree at this point.

"Man, she's different. She's not like the chicks that we went to school with. They have hustle and drive. She doesn't. I thought she did but she doesn't. She just wants to work at this little job and doesn't wanna better herself."

I tried to put a positive spin on it. But he wasn't hearing it. To him, he wanted somebody who is just as focused on their education as he was. She said that she was gonna get her degree after they were married. That was years ago and she has done nothing. In fact, she hasn't worked much during the time that they have been married.

I have a college degree. So does my wife. In fact, she has her masters degree. Could I have dated/married somebody who didn't have a college degree? Of course I could have. It's important but not as important as the other attributes that I would seek in a mate. For me, the one attribute that a woman that I'm interested in MUST have is intelligence. You gotta be smart. I'm smart. I never wanted a dumb chick. I'll take brains over beauty any day.

What about you? What is the ONE attribute that your mate MUST have? And why?

that ain't my style

On my left hand...i have a gold ring (with diamonds) that I wear on my ring finger. Mrs 12 gave it to me the day that we got married. It's called a wedding ring.

On my right wrist...i wear a watch

On my right ring finger...i sometimes wear a my gold ring with diamonds. The diamonds are in the shape of a football. I earned this championship ring when I played football in college at South Carolina State University.

Other than these 3 things...I don't wear jewelry. I've always hated jewelry. Never had a chain to hang around my neck. Never understood the "platinum chain phenomenon" that so many bruthas are into.

Unlike most men...I don't wear much jewelry.

What about you? What are some thing(s) that you are not into that most members of your gender are into?

Unlike most men/women...I don't...(u fill in the blanks)
