another me too...
For some reason…people tend to feel comfortable enough to talk to me about their issues. It’s something that I’ve noticed over my lifetime. I’m not sure why they do it. But they have. Normally, I don’t necessarily discourage people from opening up and talking to me. I think I’m in approachable person. But I have often found it weird that random people…and sometimes strangers… will open up a conversation with me. Sometimes in those conversations, they reveal things to me that they probably shouldn’t because they don’t know me that well. Maybe there is something in my demeanor or my attitude that allows people to let their guard down and be vulnerable and share their thoughts or feelings or experiences. For a long time it wasn’t something that I was cognizant of. But as I’ve gotten older, I realize that people tend to do this with me. I’m flattered most times. Other times it’s just weird.
This happened to me just the other day.
I was having a conversation at work with a coworker named Farrah. Somehow we got on the subject of college and she asked me where I went to college. I told her that I went to South Carolina State University. She told me where she went to school. She then asked how was my experience at school. I told her that I loved my time there and it was some of the best years of my life.
Farrah: "Did you party a lot when you were in college?"
Me: "Do I look like the type of guy who would party a lot?"
Farrah: "Yes, you do!"
Me: "I partied a lot. But I kept it in perspective. I understood what I was there to do. So I never let party and get in the way of what I was supposed to do. But I had a GOOD time."
Farrah: "Did you drink when you were in college? What about smoking?"
Me: "I’ve never smoked. Never will. It’s not something that ever appealed to me. I don’t knock anyone who does. But it just wasn’t my thing. As for drinking, I didn’t drink in college. Most of my friends did, so I was the designated driver when we went to parties."
Farrah: "Oh, so you never had to worry about getting drunk at a party?"
Me: "Nope! I just needed to make sure that none of my friends got too drunk and started fighting." (laughs)
Farrah: "I got drunk at a party once. And that was the last time for me."
Me: "Word? What happened? What were you drinking?"
At this point, I was expecting her to tell me some story about how she was hanging with her friends and got drunk and threw up on herself and how embarrassed she was. But the conversation took a different turn
Farrah: "I went to a party with my friend named Becky. We were having a good time. We started drinking something out of a punch bowl. I’m not even sure what it was. But it was good. But the liquor snuck up on me. I remember talking to this guy named Brett. Becky and I were laughing at Brett because he was drunk and we were drunk too. The party that we went to was far from our campus so we were going to need a ride home. Brett said he would take us home back to our dorm. By the time we left the party all three of us were pretty drunk but Brett said that he could get us home safely. And he did. By the time we got to our room I was out of it. I remember helping Becky open the door. And I remember Brett telling me that "You and Becky did great and did not throw up in my car." I remember laying down on the bed and falling asleep. That’s the last thing that I remember. When I woke up, Becky was still asleep. I was just about to crack a joke on her for still being asleep when I realized that I was naked. I don’t remember taking my clothes off. In fact...I didn’t take my clothes off! But there i was...NAKED!! From what I could tell, Becky still had on all of her clothes. But I was totally naked. To me that didn’t make any sense because I always slept in my pajamas. At that point, I began to wonder if something happened between me and Brett. My mind was racing. I rolled over, pick up the phone, and called Brett. He answered the phone. I tried to play it cool and thank him for getting us home.. He said no problem. I then asked him…
"Did something happen in my room last night? Because when I woke up I didn’t have any clothes on?"
He responded…
"You know what happened last night. And you looked like you had a good time in that room."
I responded...
"DID YOU…"
And before I could finish my statement he said…
"You KNOW you wanted it. You SAID you wanted it."
I couldn’t believe it. As much as I tried to think about it I could not remember everything that happened but I do know that something happened!
Later on that day, he tried to talk to me to smooth things over but I didn’t want to hear what he had to say.
At this point of our story, I’m dumbfounded. Speechless. This isn’t what I was expecting her to say. But I didn’t want to dismiss what she had to say. Because she needed to be heard there had to be a reason that she was telling me the story. She told me that she never pressed charges against him because it would be her word against his. She never said he raped me. But that’s what happened. I was really surprised at how she handled it and how she spoke about the situation. She had a certain aura about herself when speaking about this and she came off as someone who was very strong in spite of what had happened. She ended our conversation by saying "I’m just glad that you weren’t one of those kind of guys like Brett."
I replied...
"That's never been me."
She walked away from me and went in the opposite direction. As she walked away, I really didn’t know what to make of the conversation. There was a part of me that was stunned. And then there was another part of me that was familiar with that scenario. While I never participated in the idea or activity of getting a woman drunk to take it vantage of her, I knew that that happened when I was in college in the 90s. There was a great deal of toxic masculinity that permeated those times. And what happened? The women could either suffer silently or face public ridicule and disbelief while trying to prove that they were violated. Fast forward to 2019, not much has changed when it comes to these things...especially when you hear some men talk. Any time there is a sexual assault or rape allegation against someone, look around and take note for who is chirping the loudest. It's usually some man who let the toxic behavior slide in the 90s and now they uphold the BS. More often than not, THEY should be called out for perpetuating the toxic stuff.
And that leads me back to the conversation that I had. After she walked away, all I could think was...
"Damn, another me too..."

she might be the one...
The music was loud as it blasted from the tall, black speakers.
He stood next to them attentively scanning the dance floor...hoping to see "her".
He wasn't sure who she was but for the past 3 Saturday nights, she caught his eye.
Short hair, pretty smile, nice body, legs of track star...to him she was fly.
She moved across the dance floor with style, flair, and grace.
His eyes were focused on her heavenly body and stunning brown face
For three straight weeks, he never uttered a word to her. Only admiring her from afar
He watched as she moved around the club with the confidence of a movie star
She was often approached by different men. Some short. Some tall.
And one by one, they would walk away from her dejected and their spirit would fall
She was never mean or nasty. She would turn them all down with a smile
In his eyes, she was special. He had not seen this type in awhile.
As confident as he was, he wasn't going to approach her. Why do that and possibly get dissed?
But he was extremely drawn to her eyes, her smile, and her lips...and could imagine possibly getting a kiss
The DJ played a song. The crowd yelled. And she threw her hands to the sky.
She started moving toward the dance floor. Head nodding. She walked past a bunch of guys.
Then she started walking towards him. She got closer. Much to his disbelief, she grabbed his hand.
She gently guided him through a crowd of people. It was on the dance floor where they would land.
He thought..."Is this a dream?" This can't be real. Or was this just a part of her game.
She started dancing with him. She smiled. She leaned closer to him. And she said "what's your name?"
He froze.

what's on the box..."Love Is__"
what's on the box (2018) TV
"Love Is__"
The series premiered on June 18th on Oprah's OWN Network.
I didn't watch it until the first week of October.
I almost missed the boat. The first season (10 episodes) had ended before I watched one episode. So, I missed a lot of talk about the episodes. I knew very little about the show. I knew that the full season was on my DVR. One day, I said "I'm going to watch this and see what it's about."
Set in Los Angeles in the 1990s, "Love Is__" follows a young black couple, two people from opposite worlds, as they go through the trials and tribulations of chasing their dreams and learning how to follow their hearts. Nuri is bubbly and has big dreams, but she is struggling to make a name for herself as a sitcom staff writer while juggling a string of romances. Yasir is an aspiring director/writer who has hit a snag and is on-and-off again with his ex. The program is told from the perspective of Nuri and Yasir's present-selves while they revisit the social issues and the vibrant black culture that helped shape who they are today.
Back to that day. I didn't do any research on the show prior to watching. So...I was very interested to see how it would actually start. The first scene is Yuri’s monologue.
She said...
"He was a meteor that hit my life. I didn’t see it coming. He blew up my world and my plans. He unearthed the truth in me. He made me take of this mask that I had been wearing. So, that you can see the real light in me. So that I could see the real light in me."
I was speechless.
Not only was that great writing but very relatable from that perspective. I was hooked. I learned from those 10 episodes of "Love Is __". If you experienced love (or even if you haven't lol), you can relate. The innocence and the growth of the characters and the love that they had for each other. They also were trying to find themselves and their direction at the same time. Season 1 is 10 episodes and each episode is about 40 minutes long.
Unfortunately, "Love Is___" was grounded before it could take off. The series was created and produced by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil and was based on the Akil's real-life relationship. On December 19, "Love Is __" was cancelled due to allegations of domestic violence and lifting the idea for the series from an ex lover against Salim Akil. The ex lover alleged that she was his mistress for many years. The OWN Network pulled the plug on the show despite it being renewed for a second season.
I was sad to hear this news. Do I believe the allegations? I'm not sure. I would need to hear both sides and there has been no formal statement from Salim. Nonetheless, "Love Is ___" was a phenomenal series...even though it was only one season. It was definitely on the box in 2018. You should check it out if you haven't already.
Great story, great writing, great acting. "Love Is __"
Everything.

PODCAST: myths about sex...
Even with all of the technology and information that we have access to, you would think that people would know more about sex. Unfortunately, they don't know as much as they THINK that they do. Taboos about sex, fears about desire, and the uneasiness of speaking about our bodies have led to many myths about sex. Myths wouldn't be a thing if we made accurate information about sex accessible to young people. On this week's episode of The 12Kyle Podcast, we will comically take a look at some popular myths about sex. Listen and let me know what you think.

Of all the questions that have plagued man’s existence, few as are perplexing as what motivates the thoughts of the opposite sex. Men's Health recently polled over 1000 American women between the ages of 21 & 54 in two online surveys. Once the results were in, they organized the characteristic traits that women valued the most based on how often they appeared.
On this podcast, we'll give you the list of traits and give our thoughts on them. We'll also tell you whether or not they are significant in our eyes. Also, we'll tell you our thoughts on how each relates to attracting women.
The podcast is co-hosted by Keon (@KDot090)

you are so pretty...
...
So...
Today I was standing in the checkout line at the grocery store. I’m just chillin and waiting to pay for my groceries so that I can leave. The line that I’m standing in is long but it’s moving pretty fast. There was a man who was in line ahead of me. If I had to take a guess, he’s about 40 yrs old. We made eye contact and gave each other the proverbial "head nod" to say what's up. There was a woman who was standing in line in front of him. At first glance, she looked like she was about 40 yrs old as well.
The woman was very attractive. When she spoke to the cashier, she had a sweet & silky southern drawl.
The dude hears her speaking and immediately looks at me and gives me a look that says "Can you believe how FINE this woman is?"
Could I believe it? Yes. This is Atlanta. You can meet a runway model at 6:15 in a random grocery store. It happens. But back to the story...
I acknowledge his "look" by giving him another head nod that indicated that he probably should say something to her. The guy turns back toward the woman and she turns towards him. Before he could say something, she says "hello" to him.
He froze. I'm not sure why. But he froze for 2 seconds. Then he replied to her
"You are so pretty."
The woman paused...partly because she didn't expect that from him...then she smiled and said "thank you" as she grabbed her items to walk out of the store.
I looked at him and gave him a weird look that said "Is that all that you could come up with?" I knew that he wanted to say something. He could have struck up a conversation. But he fumbled. Badly. And he knew it. He watched her walk out of the store and all that he could do was shake his head. He paid for his groceries and so did I.
As I'm leaving the store, I noticed the woman again. She stopped at the ATM that was outside of the store. But the dude didn't see her.
She grabbed her cash and was walking towards her car. So was I. And so was the dude
As it turned out, we all parked next to each other in the same parking lot row. We were in a line...my car, her car, then his car. So, he STILL has a chance to redeem himself and say something to her. He didn't have to spit a pickup line. Just talk. I'm sure she would have been receptive to him. He reaches his car a few seconds before we get to ours. He looks at her again. She looks at him. He had peeped the personalized license plate tags on her BMW. He looked up and said..
"That's a nice license plate on your car. The name on your plate (ROSE MARY)...is that your name?"
She smiled and replied...
"No, that's my grandmothers name."
She got in her car and drove off.
I could tell that she was somewhat disappointed that he didn't strike up a conversation. Who knows where it could have gone?
Maybe he didn't know what to say. Maybe he was just scared?
He was probably thinking about a "line" to throw at her. Sometimes, you can get in your own way. Especially, if you try to be someone that you're not.
Just be yourself and have a plan as to what you want to say to people. You'll make things a lot easier for yourself

6 ways you can get an STD...that aren't sex
You would think that people would know these things. But honestly, a lot of people don't know. I found this on Men's Health the other day.
You know what the “S” in STD stands for, right? True to their name, the vast majority of sexually transmitted diseases stem from sexual contact. But there are non-sexual behaviors that can carry risks too.
“People are always asking me if the can get herpes from a hot tub or hotel sheets or toilet seats,” says herpes expert Christine Johnson, M.D., an associate professor of infectious disease at the University of Washington. “But herpes and some of these other bugs don’t live on surfaces.”
In fact, unlike cold and flu germs, most STD viruses “die immediately” once they leave the human body. For that reason, your risk of contracting an STD outside the bedroom (or backseat, or wherever you get it on) is low. But it’s not non-existent.
Here are all the ways you could end up with an STD that aren’t penetrative sex.
1. Oral Sex
“Oral sex is sex,” Johnston says. Herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, and other STDs can all be transmitted during oral sex—whether you’re giving or receiving, she says. While it's difficult to compare the risks of getting specific STDs from different types of sex, according to the Center for Disease Control, studies have shown that the risk of getting HIV from oral sex with an infected partner (either giving or getting oral sex) is much lower than the risk of getting HIV from anal or vaginal sex with an infected partner. Condoms or dental dams are effective ways to protect yourself, according to the CDC
2. Sharing Razors
Blood-borne STD pathogens—including the viruses that cause AIDS and hepatitis C—can be transmitted via razor. “It’s extremely rare,” Johnston says. But it’s something to keep in mind if you ever think to borrow a buddy’s Mach 3.
3. Unregulated Tattoos
Nearly all tattoo parlors in the U.S. follow proper health regulations. In those cases, you’re not at risk for an STD. But if you’re getting inked by a friend or at an “unregulated” tattoo shop where needles are reused, you’re at risk for hepatitis C and HIV, Johnston says.
4. Sharing Needles
Intravenous drug users (or anyone who shares needles) is at risk of contracting STIs—even beyond HIV or hepatitis C Johnston says. One recent study from the University of Florida found injection drug users may be almost twice as likely to contract an STD than people who don’t use these drugs. According to the study, those who share needles tend to be bigger sexual risk-takers and have links to high-risk networks, which gives them a greater chance of sex with an infected partner. This in turn, increases their overall STD risk and their risk for HIV infection.
5. Kissing
While herpes simplex 1 (oral herpes) is not strictly considered an STD, it can—and often is—passed via kissing, says Dr. Khalil Ghanem, M.D., Ph.D., an associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. If both you and your smooching partner have open cuts or sores around your mouths, that could potentially expose you to other STDs, he adds.
6. Dry humping
Even if you and your partner stop short of sex, rubbing your bare genitals together could lead to STD transmission, according to the CDC. For example, if your partner kept her underwear on but had an exposed, open syphilis sore, rubbing your penis on it could lead to an infection.

7 deal breakers hiring managers can't stand to see...
I came across this article while scrolling through the twitter last week. Very informative. Check it out.
With so many job interview how-to guides out there, you'd think we'd all be nailing them by now. A new survey from recruiting solutions company JazzHR, however, shows that candidates still are making employers all over the country do face palms with a few key interview mistakes.
The 7 biggest deal breakers hiring managers can't stand to see
Among the you-should-know-better-by-now blunders, JazzHR's survey of more than 500 hiring professionals across the country found that
86% of interviewers won't consider candidates not authorized to work in the country. These employers know unauthorized workers can have great skills they need. But the legal ramifications --for example, fines, the loss of a business license or even jail--usually aren't worth the risk for most companies.
81% of respondents agree that badmouthing a previous employer or employers is bad news. Mature candidates don't badmouth old bosses or companies because they take responsibility for their own part in events. Even if the employer truly was at fault, hiring managers still want you to "be the better (wo)man" and show that you've grown and learned from what happened. They know that if you talk badly about an old employer, you probably wouldn't hesitate to do it to them, too, and they'll draw the line at risking their hard-earned reputation.
8 out of 10 people would not hire a candidate with visibly bad hygiene. This is a turnoff for hiring managers for the same reason you wouldn't want a dirty Tinder date. The underlying message is that you don't care about yourself, others or your work enough. Even if you could prove this isn't the case, employers aren't going to want others to get that initial impression from you.
76% of respondents would show a candidate the door if they appeared arrogant. Bosses need to know you're able to respect their authority and the contributions from others on the team, not your own ego. They also need to know you're humble enough to be willing to learn and take responsibility for mistakes.
71% of hirers wouldn't hire a person who missed the dress code memo. Yes, hoodie-loving Mark Zuckerberg and others like him are making leaders cut employees some slack when it comes to attire. Even so, appearances still count in first impressions, and employers want to see someone polished. Your best bet when in doubt? Look at what others in the company wear ahead of time and match it.
Now, consider these last two points carefully:
90% of respondents wouldn't hire someone who lied on their resume. We get it. The market's tough, so you feel like you've got to play hardball. But lies don't build the trust employers need to give you great projects, job security and the perks you're after.
90% of people would disqualify a candidate if they simply touched their phones. Attention on the interviewer, people. That's all there is to this one. Turn your device off and put it away.
Did you catch it?
Tech--or rather the distractions it causes--is now just as reviled during the interview process as fibbing. I'll give you a moment to let that one sink in.
What's not going to cost you
83% of respondents say that 'thank you' notes are obsolete and would not disqualify a candidate that didn't send one post-interview. This might be because the daily business pace is so frantic, making it hard to look at "extra" correspondence. But tech probably has changed things, too, giving candidates other ways to show appreciation on a larger scale.
82% of prospective hirers see visible tattoos as totally acceptable. This might be one area where companies have become more open-minded about diversity, particularly considering how so many businesses now are stressing expression, authenticity and creativity. Distracted, disrespectful candidates aren't tolerated, but those who show individuality are.
56% would still give someone a job if they didn't ask any questions of their own. This might be because interviewers know questions might be slim if you've done an incredible job getting details ahead of the interview and seamlessly weave them into the conversation. Interviewers also might be considering that your primary objective has to be making the case for your skills and experience in a limited amount of time.
53% of respondents said they'd still hire a candidate who was late or who had to reschedule. This isn't to say hiring managers love to be inconvenienced--the fact that 47 percent of interviewers would give you the boot is worth pause. You should give your all to schedule the interview for a time when you think the odds of potential problems are slim to none. It's merely to say that most interviewers understand that life--you know, getting sick or having car trouble, for instance--happens.
Why are we still making the goofs?
Allie Kelly, JazzHR's VP of Marketing, says that some of the difficulty comes from generational conflicts. Today's candidates simply have different priorities about what they need and want for work-life balance, which is creating some clashes and shifting what leaders value in their company culture. But she acknowledges personal responsibility, too.
"It all comes down to preparation and discipline. The candidates who are genuinely interested and want to prove their value are the ones who will take the time to research and show how they can fit into the bigger picture. [The candidates] going into the interview with the right amount of confidence, humility and knowledge are the ones who typically get it right."
Understanding that it's ultimately up to you to ace your interview, Kelly says there are only three things to do for success:
1. Do your research. Yes, you should have basic information about the company and their values in your head. But you should also know who you'll be interviewing with. Make it personal and truly seek to connect. "Look up their LinkedIn profiles. Know what roles they've held and start to brainstorm how you could potentially work together.. If you aren't provided with an [interviewer name] list, ask for one. Come prepared with thoughtful, relevant questions that will give you a better idea of what the role will entail."
2. Practice! Practicing using the research you've done, Kelly says, develops the confidence you need to set aside interview jitters. Do some mock interviews with your friends or family members to get your talking points in line, and dress the part regardless of the role you're trying to nab.
3. Know who you are. "It's important to take a candid look at your strengths and weaknesses prior to any interview. You should know your story--what major contributions you've made in past roles, challenges you've had to overcome, and most importantly, your results. Being able to articulate these key attributes and align them to your potential employer's organization will give you a big leg up amongst the competition."
