1 Sista's Perspective

rhyme time

A young wild beautiful love child
You like them thug style link rockin, then mink coppin
Hit you on the sink a hundred dollar drink poppin
The head'll make you take him shoppin, a foul doctrine
Reminiscent of my first time up in a chick
You was innocent, but now you rent-a-dick, wear the tightest shit
Chanel lookin real, airbrushed nails
Hit the gym, hit the scales, heaven-sent but negligent (so fine..)
To see a prophecy, your ebony tone is lockin me
The way you moan make me daydream of you on top of me
Wishin I could be the one man; but you juggle
way too many Willies all in one hand
You wanna run up in clubs, gettin rubbed on
Niggaz pull your hair, shake your fat rear
Get your fuck on - followin week, you back there
But what you stuck on, weed, clowns and cars
Puffin with some lil nigga, husband not knowin she's out
Could you believe Eve, Mother Earth of the seas
Niggaz thirst you, you just let em hurt you and leave
What up mah, frontin like you naive
Pusherman's whip, callin police when you flip
Can't understand it, yo it should be a throne for us
But for now that's a whole different zone from us, word!
Nas (Black Girl Lost)

As I was debating on today's subject for the 12th Planet, I got an email from Sexxy Luv. She sent me the link for this video that's on youTube. If you don't get youTube at work, then you wanna go to the library or go home to watch this video. LOL. I normally have a lot to say but the video says enough. What's your vibe on this one? Is this sista right or is she dead azz wrong? The crunching noise that you just heard is some toes that were being stepped on. Uh oh...

Got me curious. Video didn't show up. Why come you didn't just put the video on your page instead of the link?

@ Pro
I couldn't get it to work for some reason. You may have to just cut and paste it. I'm new to some of these things. Lol

cut and paste works fine.

In theory, she hints at valid points. At the heart of her one-sided, Michael Baisden-esque soliloquy is the point about knowing self and being comfortable. I too wish that women especially would own who they are. If you are 5'2", be comfortable in being short. Same thing if you are 5'11". Love your short course hair. Trust your curves. Know that you are intelligent. Be confident in your independence without being angry. Own who you are.

My only suggestion to Sistah Soulja here is to not drink her own kool-aid like her views are the only views. Some folks are so comfortable with knowing who they are that they choose to engage in some of the things she mentioned. Or they simply have different beliefs. Soulja girls sounds like she would debate you down that her points are the only points.

Ok... I was feeling her until she started talking about 50 cent... you know thats my baby daddy... nah but on the real... I was feeling her until she said she wouldnt support them because they are double agents. I really didnt get that whole analogy. Plus I thought she was "trying" to be deep and apart of some revolution. I stress trying. That is wasnt really her and that it was forced. Why did she have to speak like she was giving a sermon. I tune people out that feel like they have to have some sort of halo in their voice.

Eb the Celeb said...

Ok... I'm back cuz now I'm pissed... I cant stand when people try to categorize black as being a certain thing. Just as she bashed beyonce for wearing weave... that IS a part of being black. Even though I believe she is a drag queen, she still embodies one aspect of the Black woman. Why are you only a "real" black woman if you have natural hair and only want to date black men. The same way she is uplifting that and praising that is just as harmful as those that feel they have to shake their ass in videos. We as black people have to STOP compartmentalizing outselves. We have many different faces and backgrounds and hairstyles, and tastes, and noses, and butt, that is what makes us the most beautiful and complex creatures that ever walked the earth.

She talk about how we have to stick together but why do we have to stick together in her realm of what she thinks the black community should look like. I think we need to drop all the labels and we will be better off...

and with that said... I'm out and I still love my black men. Thats the only thing me and her agree on. I know my man is NOT gay and NOT in jail. That he is out there for me and I am not going to go to any other race looking for what I want in my black man. But I am not sitting here knocking every black woman that has found love in a man of another race...

Ok now I'm done!

PCD (Pretty Circle Drawer) said...

hmph...let me first say that i do not agree with her saying "how dare you" to someone who finds love outside of the black community. while black men are my preference...given the numbers, some black women seriously MAY NOT be able to find an eligible black man. the slavery analogy was over the top...and it could go both ways. while black men "carried us" (according to her)...some men have chosen to abandon/disrespect black women as well.

furthermore, i need to go and view the video that prompted this. what exactly is she saying black women have done to "drop the ball?" going to the movies, buying cds? enjoying entertainment? also, i would like to add that SHE in fact, has dropped the ball because i do not appreciate the vulgarity when trying to convey a "message." if she is so deep and above this and that, could she not find a better way to speak? i really don't like that. don't shake your finger at people and you sound like a sailor in the mess hall.

i need to go and re-watch...i'll return

i SOOOOOOOOOOO AGREE WITH EB!!!

she really seemed to only "big-up" blackness in the respect of what she prefers and/or looks like. i do not have lips like hers, or hair like hers or whatever else she was referring to...but i am black. so is my husband. i also love me some halle berry. (sometimes i don't know why tho-LOL) so i guess i'm dropping the ball according to her? whatevs! get off the high horse!

furthermore, what is she doing to actually perpetuate this theory of blackness besides making youtube videos? i HAVE a black man, AND a black child. i sit on an art board that exhibits black art. i mentored black girls. does that make me SUPER-BLACK? well, i enjoy halle and beyonce...does that make me BARELY-BLACK?

thumbs down missy!

PCD & Eb....I saw the same things you saw. The elitist tone of her voice rubbed me wrong for a second, but I tried to hear her words above it. I couldn't. I've been to the slave castles in West Africa and for me it gave me a sense of self that was empowering not condescending towards others or rage against the man. It was the opposite. Like I come from the same elk of people who survived, endured and built. AND I appreciate what Jay-Z represents to a culture that evolved from pain.

"Trying to be part of a revolution...." -LMAO

I can't watch the video right now but I'll be sure to catch it during lunch and let you know what I think.

um...yeah... Eb is right- she's puttin' a lil bit too much on it. It's almost comedic... I might have to put together a parody video just for kicks LOL

I am so happy to see the comments that are being left here. When I was watching the video I was thinking this chick is CRAZY!!

She didn't make one valid point to me, she was more or so all over the place contradicting her self!

We all know when she mentioned Beyonce' I had steam shooting out my ears, I was pissed!

The part that pissed me off the most was when she started talking about her lips, hair and skin tone.

For those of us who don't agree with her or look like her we are considered- white washed black women.WTF, what kind of crap is that!

My question to the male bloggers,

Do you think this is why a lot of sista are single, would you prefer a more "natural" looking sista or does it not matter?

Also Do you think some of the facts she state about sista's are true and if so which ones?

CHA CHA said...

HMPH!!::arms folded:: can't see it!

Q: Do you think this is why a lot of sista are single, would you prefer a more "natural" looking sista or does it not matter?

It would be naive of me to say that one issue results in many women being single. Some are single by choice. Some are not ready. Some are healing. The list goes on. As I mentioned above, I do think that some sistahs have a long way to go to learn to value themselves. If there was an issue with sistahs, it would be that. You all own it all. Know that. Believe that. Nothing starts or stops unless you say so. Sometimes you act like it's the opposite. Settling for crumbs when you should be dining in delight.

The look, whether natural or not, is subjective. Depends on the viewer. What makes any look appealing is when the woman has a strong sense of who she is. She looks the way she looks be she likes what she likes. She can know about Queen Sheba and still add a length or two for today's style. I betcha won't try her!

Some of the THEMES of what this person said are relatable. Know from whence you've come. I believe in that. Love your beauty. Trust that. At some point though, we have to evolve to believe that enjoying the accoutrements of today's existence does not equate to us not knowing self or being disillusioned. Relax.

Sista Souljah??? Lmao @ u!!! Boyyyeee youz a fool. You hit on some great points, tho.

@ Queen
Check it out and post to the blog once you've had a chance to view it.

@ Eb the Celeb
Fiddy? Who's that dude? LOL. Homegirl lost me with her attack on the celebrities. Lmao @ you with 2 posts!!!

@ PCD
She was off based with the slavery stuff. She kinda came off as someone who's read a lil bit of stuff and now she knows everything.

2 posts from you too? Haaa

@ Rezidl
You know how we feel about Jigga! You can't diss our homey! Haaaa. Another good point about the motherland

@ Don
Lemme know what u think

12kyle said...

@ Jaded NYer
I could see you doing that! LOL

@ Sexxy Luv
Thanks for the video!

You don't wanna hear NOBODY talking about Beyonce Carter! Haaa. I feel you, tho. That shyt made no sense

@ Sexxy Luv
I would prefer a sista who knows WHO she is and WHERE she's tryna go. That's what I love about my wife. She's not fake. Very real.

I think her whole presentation was sloppy. I understood her intent. But I just think that she had more opionion than fact. Her sole purpose was to cause confusion and not to inform.

@ Poca
You gotta check it out. Lemme know when you do.

@ Rezidl
There are soooo many issues. Some come from within and others are outside influenced. That said...I'll take a sista any day

@ Pretty Black
You are the realist! I knew that you'd have something to say! Good job!

I hear what she is saying but...

That whole double agent talk made me think of one of them homeless people on the street who are always talking crazy. "You betta watch out for them double agents."

Okay okay.

I wish she would've sat still or something.

She was pretty. I loved her even skin complexion.

I guess she won't support me as an author now that I have blond highlights in my hair.

I forgot to say, for the most part, I think she just enjoyed hearing her own voice. Eight plus minutes with not a lot to say.

any point that might've been made lost power with me as soon as she decided to stereotype racial groups

that talk about whites and hispanics left a bitter taste in my mouth
Don't vilify others then get mad when the same is done to you

Ramifications of slavery can be seen to this day
That much cannot be denied
but the answer to our problems lie not in blame, but in honest open communication towards a solution

Tell me why you're mad
ill tell you why i'm mad
lets get to changing together

I totally disagree with her, on so many points. Our hair, weave, or style of dress don't define us. If it did, our parents, and our parents parents would be turning over in their graves, because we are just constantly recycling style. We were processed, permed, afroed, braided, natural, pressed, bobbed, etc... and the list goes on...Nobody questioned our authenticity in the past when we changed our hairstyle and dress and the only men would could date were our own. This sister is way off key, and misses the point of who she really is...my hairstyle does not define me, that's why i never bought in to the ideal that just because my hair was permed, i wanted to be white...i never wanted to be anything more than me...my hairstyle doesn't change my color, my race nor my experience, and it won't change my future. Black men may be speaking out about black women, but it's not because we are sellouts, it's because we have a lot of healing to do, and they in turn have a grave stake in that healing, simply by loving us for who we are, generally and individually. I came into this world alone, and i will leave it alone, and so each of us must make the best out our own lives, without the pressure of trying to satisfy somebody elses idea of who we are, or should be...that to me is a sellout, Black, white or other.

@ Jewells
If you have blonde streaks then YOU are a double agent. LOL

@ dejanae
tellemwhyumad, son!! LOL

I wonder if she had been heartbroken before she did this. She sounded real bitter.

@ Miz
That whole hairstyle thing lost me. I watched it again to get more clarity but she left me even MORE confused. LOL.

No I am with pretty black on this one. I am fuming listening to this BS.

How dare she try to tear down Black women the backbone of the entire community?! Is it the fault of Black women that there is a lack of our men in the community, how about putting the blame where it lies AMERIKKKA.

My hair is straight and long naturally so am I not as black because my hair isn't like wool. She is subscribing to the same BS she is saying black woman need not... She wont buy Beyonce albums not because its not good music but because she is a light skin blonde weave wearing double agent. Know your history melosidad1, Black women have been coloring their hair and adding accoutrement since the beginning of time. Black women have been dancing and shaking what their mommas gave them since Africa (now granted some of these videos are a mess but you get my point)

Somebody has been drinking the kool-aid
