80s, baby!!!

Ole skool. That's me. Let's take it back to the ole skool today.

I was reading my girl Pro's "review" of the new Lil Wayne cd. After reading it, I started thinking about how music has changed. Today's music is different from the music of the 80s and 90s. But then again...so are we! We're older so our tastes are different.

I thought about the music that was HOT back in the 80s. Then, I looked through the old cd collection and I picked out one of my favorite cds from the 80s.

GUY
Guy is the self titled debut album from the American R&B band Guy. It was released in 1988 by MCA Records. It is credited with popularizing the New Jack Swing genre and was co-written produced and co performed by Teddy Riley who was instrumental in developing and created this new style. It became a platinum selling record.

1. "Groove Me"
2. "Teddy's Jam"
3. "Don't Clap...Just Dance"
4. "You Can Call Me Crazy"
5. "Piece Of My Love"
6. "I Like"
7. "'Round and 'Round (Merry Go 'Round of Love)"
8. "Spend The Night"
9. "Goodbye Love"
10. "My Business"

This cd was SMOKIN!!! From the beginning to the end. Today's post...gimme ONE HOT cd from the 80s. You don't have to provide the tracklisting if you don't want to but you have to tell me the hits from that cd. And the cd MUST be from the 80s.

Let's take it back! Hollatchaboi!!

The group = GUY
The album = THE FUTURE
The song = LONG GONE

Trish said...

Sorry my album pick for ..
GUY - THE FUTURE came out in 1990.
Its close enough and it was a bangin' album. lol !

ShellyShell said...

Guy STAYS in heavy rotation. I have to listen to "I like" everyday! Of Course Prince's Purple Rain, Janet's Control, MJ's Thriller but for real Prince fans like myself. The Sign of the Times album is FIYA! From what I read people say that only real Prince songs appreciate this album top to bottom! To me this album is one of the greatest ever made.

1.Sign of the Times
2.Play in the Sunshine
3.Housequake
4.The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
5.It
6.Starfish and Coffee
7.Slow Love
8.Hot Thing
9.Forever in My Life
10.U Got the Look
11.If I was Your Girlfriend
12.Strange Relationship
13.I could Never Take the Place of 14.Your Man
15.The Cross
16.It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night
17.Adore

For Hip-Hop it would be Eric B. and Rakim....Paid in Full that album truly made me fall in love with hip hop. But love began with Dougie Fresh's The Show! Classic!
Paid in Full

1.I ain't no Joke
2.Eric B is on the Cut
3.My Melody
4. I know You Got Soul
5.Move the Crowd
6.Paid in Full
7.As the Rhyme Goes On
8.Chinese Arithmatic
9.Eric is President
10.Extended Beat

Ok I'll stop I could do this all day! I love music but too bad Hip-Hop is dead! Although I've heard a few tracks of the new Nas album and it took me back to Illmatic! Thanks for letting me stroll down memory lane!

Okay since Kyle is being so damn demanding... Here is my corrected 80's pick.

Artist = CHAKA KHAN
Album = NAUGHTY
Released = 1980
Song = CLOUDS

The Pew View said...

Baby that's simple. Prince and that Purple Rain album. Me and Mabel both had purple leather suits round the time that song came out. We was sharp as a tact chile'. Anyhow I remember the night we wore our purple leather we played that Purple Rain song back to back. Kinda made that our theme song for the night. Chile we was in there dancing and laughing, smoking and dranking having us a good ole time. I still had the fire in me even in my 50's baby.

Baby you know we still got them suits. I looks good in mine to this day, but po Mabel put it on and she gone have a bunch of kids running up to her. That chile' would look like Barney for sho in that outfit right about now. Take care now.

That album by GUY was the best album/CD/cassette they every created. They went straight down hill from there. They never came up with another CD that was as good as that album. It was hot then and now.
My 2 favorites off the top of my head are (of course) Prince 1999 (released in 1986) and MJ (the prince of pop) THRILLER!!! Track for Track the best album ever!!!
