unbelievable

Live from Bedford-Stuyverson, the livest one
Representin BK to the fullest

Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie Smalls (Unbelievable)

I remember the first time I heard Biggie was on the Dolly My Baby track by Supercat. I remember borrowing the tape from my teammate Bruce when we were in college. I remember being moved by Biggie's verse. I kept playing the tape (yes...I said tape) over and over. We were getting ready to play a game and I told Bruce that I'd give him the tape back after the game.

I didn't.

He asked for it later that week at practice. I told him that I'd give it to him later when we got back to the dorm.

I didn't.

I had no intention on giving him back the tape. I had become a fan. By the time Biggie's first cd, Ready to Die, was set to debut...I had rocked Bruce's tape so much until it popped. When Ready to Die came out, I bought the cd and never replaced Bruce's tape.

To say that I was a HUGE Biggie fan is an understatement. Biggie was my dude. I think he was a great MC who was on the cusp of being a MEGASTAR before his life was tragically taken from us...13 yrs ago today.

We miss you, Biggie!

Any favorite Biggie memories or songs?

One of my faves is Dead Wrong. Gosh, I'm trying to remember what I was doing 13 years ago. I do remember thinking Biggie and Pac's deaths would lead to a shift in the music. Although I didn't always agree with the lyrics, they set a certain standard that few have matched.

Bruce said he'll see you in People's Court...lol

Dang...13 years ago?? Time sure does fly. Biggie's music still has an impact on hip hop today...which is a very good thing. Artists today definitely should relax and take notes. That time in music was soooo great...from like '93/'94 to like '97. Instead of people tryin to bring the 80s back, they should be more worried about bringin that back.

Biggie will definitely be in heavy rotation all day today...

i grew up really sheltered and had no real access to music outside of haitian music played at family functions, etc. i was in the 8th grade when biggie was shot and i remember all my friends being shocked and i was just like, whatever. it wasn't until later (in college) when i first started to listen more and gain more exposure to his music that his talent and breadth of his influence really hit home for me. i think on some level, everyone can relate to his struggles. i'm proud that brooklyn produced someone like biggie, because while his lyrics/lifestyle may be more than controversial, his genuine commitment to his craft is what i admire.

I was a Jr in high school when BIG was killed. I didnt believe it, even after I heard it on the radio.
Ready to Die still gets MUCH play in my mp3 player, "Sky's the Limit" is my jam and to this day I stop what I'm doing to dance and sing along to "One More Chance" regardless of what I'm doing. Miss this dude something terrible...

RIP BIG

I can't believe it's been that long. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in high school senior year and I remember going to school and everyone was actually quiet for once.

Man, Kyle, you know I'ma always rep the west, so I can honestly say that I really wasn't into Biggie too much and didn't appreciate his music until after his death. However, I must say that one of my faves from him HAS to be Going Back to Cali. Youuuknoooow!
