ucanfindmeindaclub?

Sometimes it'd be a particular song.

Sometimes it'd be a certain beat.

Sometimes it'd just be the vibe.

There was a time when The Club was where it was at. There was a time for me when the club scene was just electric.

Every city or town has that one club that did it for you. There was a time when I looked forward to going to the club. I remember when I first moved to Atlanta. The vibe was crazy because the hip hop scene here was just beginning to grow. The only person who I knew when I moved here was my roommate/partner in crime, JFresh. We figured that we needed to venture out into the city to see what it was all about. And we did...on a NIGHTLY basis. Two young bachelors with a pocket full of money...that's what we were. And we thourougly enjoyed ourselves.

Even after I got married, I would still hang out at some clubs. I never went there to pick up women. I just enjoyed the scene. The blaring music. Watching dudes spending loot on drinks for women who they couldn't snag. Watching scantly clad women walk around and wonder why they weren't considered "marriage material." There would be times when I would hit the dance floor (yes...I can dance!) and dance by myself. It didn't matter who was around me. I would kinda be in that zone.

My clubbin' was never an issue for my wife. She always knew where I was and I never came home "late." She understood. If you give me some good music and a good DJ...I'm straight! She knew I wasn't out tryna pick up chicks. She knew I was always with JFresh, Clark, or Steve. And I always encouraged her to go out with her friends, too.

Over a period of time, the club stopped giving me that adreanline rush that it used to. Some of my favorite spots in Atlanta closed down. Then, it seemed like the vibe changed.

-Too many corny dudes started showing up. You know...the corny dude that would strategically place his BMW car keys on the bar so that chicks would KNOW what he was driving.

-Too many thugs walkin' round the club with their pants fallin of their ass.

-Too many chicks fighting to get to the VIP section so that they could say that they were up there with Dominique Wilkins or Mike Vick.

-Too many drunk chicks.

-Too many horrible rap songs.

-Too much "snap music."

-Too much mean muggin.

The club scene got real old...really fast. I could never be the dude that spent $20 to get in a joint and stand on the wall. Nope. That's not me. I'm gonna get my money's worth! The club scene aint what it used to be. It changed. Or maybe it was me? Maybe I got grown. Now, I prefer a nice lounge with good music. I don't need the big crowds. I still dance. Now it's just a nice, smooth two step. But I can still break it down when I need to.

Me and the club are separated but we have good memories. Maybe I'm too old (LoL) now. You won't catch me hot and drenched in sweat at a club. That chapter has been closed.
Whut about u? U still clubbin?

During my late teen years, I would sneak in the clubs that my older cousins went to. My first two years in college @ Howard U...well you can guess how that went. Needless to say, now at the ripe age of 28.5, I am ALL CLUBBED OUT. Now, don't get me wrong if there's a special event going on or if it's a holiday or something I may go to a club. That's few and far between. Now, I'm much more of a lounge and/or homebody.

I dont remember what age, but the club and I separated YEARS ago.
My favorite club in Manhattan was THE TUNNEL.
Man, I used to get my dance on in that joint, you had to stand outside and be picked to get in the club by the owners each night.
Me and my girls were there Wednesday to Sunday. Yes I said Wed. to Sun. I would party during the week and leave the club b4 day on Sunday and still make it to Sunday school so my parents wouldnt give me greif. Whew!! I dont know how I did it and I was the girlfriend with the car, so I always drove. FUN, FUN times. I couldnt do that crap now if you paid me. Id be sleep somewhere on a bar stool ! LOL.

I was never really into the club scene. I think the last time I went clubbing was about 3 1/2 years ago, and that was only because a friend was promoting. The clubs in London appeal to me.

that should have said: the clubs in London don't appeal to me.

JIMMENY CRICKET!!!!!! you done had a makeover, lookin' fly might i add. been gone too long, so i hafta get back into the swing...

anyhoo, i TOTALLY feel you on the club scene. hasn't felt right since the summer of '86...LOL, nah let me stop playing. i was 7 in '86 (but it just sounds delightfully nostalgic)...haven't been in so long and don't have the desire for the very reasons you mentioned

I separated from traditional clubs in college, LOL!!

But the Salsa club nights draw me in like a moth to a flame! They believe in dancing and having a good time. No pretense, not trying to pick you up, just good fun.

After experienceing the latin nights I don't think I could ever go back to the hip-hop clubs. That lounging on the walls just tick me off!!!

Especially when they come to 'experience' latin night and just take up valuable floor space, LOL.

I never did the club scene to begin with. I went from house parties to frat parties to the many fly lounges of NYC.

I don't do lines and I don't do that VIP shit.

It's a RARE night that you'll see me in a place filled with posers & braggarts.

No ... I'm not still clubin' ... Ocassionally, I will go out and just as you its to a lounge or a specific event being held at the club.

For me it was that 'moment' ... the moment that I was at a particular spot back home pinned to the wall ducking behind Biggie Smalls because a fight broke out and bullets started flying ... Not quite how I wanted to end up in VIP with Nas, Keith Murray and everyone else who was running ... that incident sent me home for years ...

Obviously, while I was away things changed tremendously ... scantly dressed women gave the men the 'right' to disrespect all women ... which simply suggested to me that the social experience nor the caliber of man that I was interested in was some place OTHER than the club ...

I used to love the clubs, not to find guys but to just go there and dance the night away. When the DJ had it right you could have so much fun. I havent had a good time in a club for two years now. I guess im also done with it.

I never really have been a clubber...I prefer lounges. For all of the reasons that you stopped, are the same reasons why I'm not a clubber...I can't sweat out my edges for that ish.

Well you know me i am known to frequent one on occassion, but its usually the 35 and older places...with all that said, it's still the same old scene, an it don't take long to get old...unless you are with a group of friends or family...in that case, we make our own party!

and yes- Kyle can cut a rug, lol!

24 was it for me. I'm not much of a dancer, but when i started seeing the same people every week and noticing it, I was like I'm done. Let's just take it to the house and have our own party. Then again, I did go every wednesday-saturday. I just got burnt out on the club.

I used to liiiiiiive in the club from thursday to monday...and somehow managed to keep a 9 to 5 AND go to school. I'm still catching up on all the sleep i missed! lol

The scene is DEFINITELY not the same. People used to dance...now it's all about profiling, walking around with a bottle (JUST TO SAY YOU HAVE A BOTTLE)...it's turned into the wackness personafied.

I'm like you...a club once in a blue moon, but I'm more of a lounge type person now too!

I've never been a club person has all the elements I am not too fond of...dark, crowded, loud and smokey. Just all a bad combination for me.

Nah...I'm so over the club scene and has been for a few years. I'm with you give me a bar or lounge with a flat screen and a live band and we are good!

Sincerely,

Go

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I was like you, a dancer. I wanted to get my sweat on. I stopped going to the clubs right around the time I got engaged, because as much as I liked to dance, I liked picking up a little something cute too.

Outside of networking events that one of my boys was promoting about a year ago, I haven't been to the clubs to get my party on since around 1996.

Nah, been stopped clubbin' a long time ago. But, yeah, like you, I remember when I lived in Stone Mountain and damn near lived @ Club Xcess and Frozen Paradise. And, of course, Magic City. LOL.

...they call me "L" said...

Hell naw, Kyle. Tha L gave that clubbin' thing up damn near ten years ago. Maybe it was my days in "the bizzness" (you know what I'm talkin' bout) that ended the fun of the club scene for me. Or maybe, like you, I just got grown. Nowadays, I'd much rather be at home with a nice meal and a good movie.

12kyle said...

@ L
I feel you. Being in the bidness could make it grow old...very quick. You see a lot and then you mature.

KayC, The Quiet Storm said...

Don took me back with those clubs!

Kyle check your email, I sent you a list of places to get your Salsa boogie on. I agree...ain't nothing like sweating your hair out.

I haven't been to a big Ass club in a many moons. But when I did LOVE the scene I lived at THE TUNNEL! I was in college and my friend used to bartend there. That place was the place to be!!
Now I go to lounges but even they turn into a "club scene." I have found a little spot that has a white DJ who goes IN! It's free and lowkey and the music is FIYAH!! I could go every week and sit and listen to the music. He played every old school hip hop and r&b jam you could think of!

I had a couple of clubs that I loved back in the day..I stopped going when all of the shooting ,stabbing and nonsense started. I had a wife and daughter at home ,I reasoned and I wouldn't be much good to them dead.

But before that started, that's where you'd find me and my boys on a Friday night.

Manda said...

and to think i haven't clubbed dis yr! Kinda miss it but dont think i'm going back.

Reina said...

I frequented a few hip hop clubs in college, but by graduation, I was no longer impressed. Guys snatching on you, misogynistic music, girls gyrating on the floor, etc. And you know what the worst thing was? Smoke in my hair! Do you know how long it took to get rid of that smell? Ugh. Yeah, I had to let that go.

I am much more a movie-watching homebody now. You may catch me at a lounge every now & then. When I want to dance until the wee hours of the morning, catch me in a salsa or a reggae club.
