I saw this posted on Instagram the other day by Questlove from The Roots. It's simple...you have to pick #NineGoodAlbums that "built" me. The albums must be dope and flawless. Instead of posting a picture on IG, I decided to make it a podcast. Simple, right? Not really...as this was difficult. Here are my 9 Good Albums. Listen to the podcast and tell me yours...

• Songs In The Key of Life - Stevie Wonder
• Purple Rain - Prince & the Revolution
• Illmatic - NaS
• Paid In Full - Eric B & Rakim
• Midnight Marauders - A Tribe Called Quest
• My Life - Mary J Blige
• Illadelph halflife - The Roots
• It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back - Public Enemy
• Raising Hell - Run DMC

around the house music...

Music is probably one of the few things that we ALL share an interest in.

We all don't like the same music but we all like SOME form of music.

What was the first song that you ever learned? Think about that for a second...

It was probably the same song that I learned...the ABC song! We all learned our ABCs to that same song! For all of us, that was our introduction to music.

I'm not sure how things were in your house growing up...but in my house my parents always played music around the house. We had a big stereo/record player back in the day and they seemed to play music almost every day. I can remember listening to music as we got ready for school in the morning. We'd also listen to music at night before we went to bed. I was born in 1972...so I was exposed to some GREAT music. Being exposed to music early in life helped my appreciation for it later in life.

My parents were old school. My mom would play gospel music in the house on Sundays before and after church. But the rest of the week, we listened to a little bit of everything...Earth Wind & Fire, The O'Jays, Commodores, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, and Marvin Gaye...just to name a few. She would play music almost all day Saturday as we "cleaned up" the house. That always stuck with me. My dad had a great record collection. He had this one record that I grew to fall in love with. It was Hotter Than July by Stevie Wonder. The album cover stood out to me at first glance. I was only 7 yrs old but I quickly learned that this Stevie Wonder fella was pretty good. My favorite song was All I Do.

Baby just suppose I should happen to cross your mind
And by some chance a boy like me you're really been trying to find
Well let me tell you girl
Think of how exciting it would be
If you should discover you feel like me
If you should discover this dream is for two
We'll I'm gonna tell you girl
I'd light a candle every day
And pray that you'll always feel this way
And pray that our love will forever be new
'Cause all I do is think about you

Listening to it now...takes me back and makes me remember.

It also reminds me of how little music that I play around the house. When I do...it's in my headphones. I play it in the car all the time but hardly ever in the house. Maybe I should do it more in the house. You'd be surprised how your day can be changed by listening to some good music before you get your day started.

What about you? Did you listen to music in your house growing up? Do you listen now?

muzikmonday

The other day I was going through some old blog posts from a few years ago. I stumbled across a blog called "Muzik Monday". It was a post of videos/songs that I liked or was playing at the time. As I listened to the songs, I thought to myself..."I kinda miss this dude."

So...I decided to bring it back.

I think with the old posts I listened to a lot of hip hop so that's what I posted most of the times. Now, I'll do it randomly based on any music that I come across. I still listen to a lot of hip hop but that's not all that I listen to. The MuzikMonday songs are just some songs that stood out to me that I heard over the past few days while listening to Pandora.

Lose Myself by Marsha Ambrosius

I'm a fan of Marsha's. This song was originally done by Lauryn Hill. I'm a HUGE fan of LBoogie. Very deep song. Listen to the words. (ps...come back Lauryn. lol)

My Favorite Thing - Ron Isley (Ft. Kem)

Good to see Mr. Biggs back on the scene. Very cool song. I like it!

We Belong Together - Mariah Carey

Me and Mariah...go back like babies and pacifiers. hahahah. I've never been a big fan of Mariah's but this album was sick. I always loved this joint from her. Very melodic. Very deep and meaningful song.

All I Do - Stevie Wonder

This is a classic. I remember my when my parents had this album (Hotter Than July). They would play this all the time. This is one of my favorite songs from the album

I Ain't No Joke - Eric B. & Rakim

Hip hop will always been on my playlist. And this was my theme song when I was a young kid. LOL. You can't go wrong with the greatest MC of all time...Rakim
