privacy please

Y'all know me. You read this blog. You follow me on the twitter (@12kyle). You know me from Facebook. You listen to 12 Radio every Wed night at 9pm EST.

You don't know me.

Actually, both statements are true.

From reading this blog, you can assume certain things...my level of education, social economic status, level of intelligence, and some general personality traits. Even though we've never met, you feel like you know me. I'm a cool dude. The kinda dude you'd wanna hang out with. Well, that is true! I am THAT guy!

In being everything that you think I might be, I'm also a very private person. I am extremely careful about what say on this blog and in my tweets. While I would never make up lies or be someone who I'm not, I do believe that everything that happens in my life isn't for public consumption. SOME things need to be kept for yourself. We live in a era of reality tv and overexposure. I'm a firm believer that everybody doesn't need to know everything. So, the woman who tweets/blogs about all of her sexual conquests may think she's "keepin it real" but she'll be perceived as a ho. The dude who tweets/blogs about all the time about BS is perceived as a jerk with no life/social skills.

Some may say you can't control one's perception of you but if you VOLUNTEER information about yourself...you can control the info that you give out. Is it being paranoid? I don't think so. I just think we should all have a filter. We have to understand that once you press SEND or ENTER, it's for the world to see. That may not mean as much to others as it does to me.

Just be careful about what you say because you don't know who's reading it. And once you say it, you can't control how it's received or disseminated.

I totally agree with this. On my blog I share a lot (because I am a chronic oversharer even in real life) but I never regret anything. There are certain things that will never grace the pages of my blog. I would never let any behind my bedroom door and due to the fact that I have what I believe are unsavory opinions on certain issues, I keep real hard hitting stuff to myself.

But I do want people who read my blog to know the real me and I think that is what I put off.

I feel you. People are generally interested when you talk about yourself. Success and struggles. However, some things have to be kept close to vest.

Completely agree. It just AMAZES me the amount of information and pictures that people release to strangers, who then pass on and RT this information.

I know information about people that I really shouldn't know and it's not even because I'm snooping around. It's simply because they constantly volunteer the information.

The need for privacy seems to be not as important as the need for attention...and releasing certain information is a sure way to get a certain kind of attention.

It's really overkill.

Amen and amen! Personally if you're not the one I'm sharing my life with.. I can care less about knowing the all about another person. Which is why I can't stand these jacked up reality show after reality show. It's one thing to get bio info and simply watch every got darn move another person make.. And from some of the stuff you read what people post on facebook, twitter, or those that include EVERYONE (public) in their phone conversation.

After the rambling... your post => Well Said!

You aint neva lied. Some folks are dyin for attention.

@ Tee
Most stuff that we read is over the top. At some point, you have to filter yourself

Too much info out there for you Kyle? It's easy to think you know someone because you interact with them via blogger, facebook, twitter, etc.

I've learned more about people I 'thought' I knew than I would ever care to know due to social networks. Because of that I am cautious about what I put out there but sometimes you forget the online world is not as 'anonymous' as you think.

Thanks to my neighbor/stalker for giving me that reality!

Stalker? Say word!

Interesting and worthy blog, reading the blog reminds me of the media giving us too much information when secrecy is incredibly imperative. Especially matters regarding warfare or just giving too much information about celebrities’ lives. I actually think some people imitate the media in terms of giving too much information about self and family; which includes posting of photos. Maybe in the hopes of gaining 15 minutes of fame or the simply need of attention to satisfy a shortcoming in their life.

If you think about it, the media gives the perception that it is appropriate to “tell all” because the media glorifies sex tapes, family dysfunction and so forth.
Indeed the giver that is giving too much information on social networks should wonder about the perception that is stamped forever in the many paths and avenues of social networks. Therefore one or many should not be surprised by the change of online demeanor. Sometimes what you give out is exactly what you get back. One or many can open closed doors to unsavory people that thrive on the anonymity of the Internet.

Remember when we we're kids and your momma said "What goes on in this house, stays in this house!"? I think some people weren't paying attention

Great post. As a newbie to blogging, I wonder if sometimes I blog too much. I guess my rule of thumb is not to post anything I would be ashamed for my grandmother or son to see.

This was a great post. People do get the impression they "know" you from words and pics, but as I've said before you can't really know a person until you meet them, and in real life you may hate them lol!
