PODCAST : Stop Hating

The word “hate” gets thrown around a lot these days. If someone doesn’t like something, they are immediately labeled a “hater”. But are they really hating??? The Urban Dictionary defines a “hater” as…

“A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person. Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesn’t really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock someone else down a notch.”

But can you dislike something/someone and NOT be a hater? We examine the phenomenon of “hating” and if we should stop using the word “hate”.

We said that 2009 would be the year of CHANGE.

CHANGE is definitely needed.

I'm proposing a new CHANGE.

One of the great things about hip hop and it's lingo is that is forever changing. I propose that we make a change. A few years, the hip hop world adopted the word HATER. We took the word and ran with it. We could immediately identify a HATER (short for playa hater). There's no need for me to define HATER because we all know what it means. We all know HATERS. Or do we?

I propose that we change the word from HATER to the word UNLIKEABLE.

For example, I heard a female say that she didn't think that Beyonce could sing. People immediately labeled her a HATER. Just because she didn't like Beyonce's vocals? HATER? Not so. To her, Beyonce's vocal's are UNLIKEABLE.

Personally, I don't quite a few things/people. For example, I grew up hating the Dallas Cowboys. I don't know any of them personally. To me, they are UNLIKEABLE. I'm not a Kobe Bryant fan. I'm not a HATER. He's UNLIKEABLE to me. I don't know him personally. From afar, he seems to be very aloof and arrogant. Would I have a drink with him? Nope. I've been labeled a Kobe HATER. Not true. He's just UNLIKEABLE to me.

I'm a Yankees fan. If you're a Red Sox fan, I don't expect you to be happy that we just won a title. You're not a HATER. The Yankees and your view is UNLIKEABLE. And it's ok.

It's the same in your personal life. Ladies...if you don't like your co-workers mini-skirt...don't HATE...just say it's UNLIKEABLE. LOL. Got it?
It's ok NOT to like something. You feel me?

Though some of that shit y'all pop true it, I ain't relating. If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hating - Common (6th Sense)

somefolksaintready...

Today is a different day.

Different from yesterday.

Or is it?

While we're feeling the love, joy, and pride from watching a black man become President of the United States and leader of the free world. Somebody is homeless now...b/c of their love for him and the ignorance shown by some coward.

I hate to bring bad news on a day like today but I had to share this story. A far as we THINK we've come...we've got sooooo far to go.

Suspicious fire destroys home while owner in D.C. for inauguration
By Julie Arrington
Staff Writer

This house on Lanier Drive in northeastern Forsyth County burned to the ground about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators say the fire is suspicious.
Authorities are investigating a suspicious weekend house fire they say occurred while the homeowner, a single mother of three, was in Washington, D.C., for the presidential inauguration.
They also are trying to determine if she may have been targeted because of her support for President-elect Barack Obama.
No one was home when the house on Lanier Drive in northeastern Forsyth County burned to the ground about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Someone spray-painted graffiti that included the phrase “your black boy will die” on a fence along the property.
Forsyth County Fire Marshal Steve Anderson said Monday the fire is considered “suspicious,” but would not say it was racially motivated.
“What we’re doing right now is we’re investigating a suspicious house fire,” he said. “There are indications that there may have been some type of terroristic threat.
"We can not verify that at this time, not knowing how [the graffiti] got there, who it was for, several things. But right now we’re just looking at it as a suspicious fire with suspicious circumstances.”
Anderson said he spoke briefly on the phone with homeowner Pam Graf, who is on her way back to Georgia from the nation's capital. He plans to meet with her Tuesday.
Attempts to reach Graf for comment Monday were not successful. But her father, William Morrow, said he thinks she was targeted because of her political views.
Morrow said Graf had two Obama campaign signs in her yard before the fire. He wasn’t sure what happened to one sign, but said he asked her to remove the other after she received a negative letter about a week before the fire.
Morrow said the letter addressed her political views, though he couldn't remember any specifics from it that his daughter had shared with him.
He said she had taken the sign out of her yard before she left Friday.
Anderson said if fire investigators determine that the graffiti is a possible threat against Obama, they will involve the Secret Service. The department's Atlanta field office was closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
“Once I sit down and talk with her and we can discuss this a little bit more in depth, if we feel that’s what it is we’ll call them and give them the information and see what they want to do,” he said.
Anderson said the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has been notified, but is not yet involved in the investigation.
“It’s ongoing and we’ve got investigators out today working on it,” Anderson said, adding that the sheriff’s office has offered to help.
“If we need it, we’re going to take advantage of it,” he said. “We’re still very early in, we’re still trying to collect information dealing with the fire. At this point in time, we can’t even say the fire was an intentionally set fire, it’s just suspicious.”
Graf's three children did not travel with her over the weekend, but stayed with family.
William Morrow said Graf did not actively campaign for Obama in Forsyth County. A few years ago, however, she lived in Delaware and supported 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry.
He said Graf told him she attended a Democratic party meeting last week, but he was not sure of her involvement in the group.
Lanier Drive winds along a heavily wooded peninsula dotted with homes that juts out into Lake Lanier.
Crime scene tape wrapped around the charred remains of the house Monday. A basketball goal, go-kart and some outdoor furniture were just a few of Graf’s belongings not scorched by the flames.
The foundation and what appears to have been part of the front of the house are all that’s left of the structure.
Forsyth Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the house was “beyond fully involved” in flames when firefighters got there and it “had already experienced some structural collapse.”
Monday afternoon, Morrow was still in disbelief. The incident, he said, “doesn’t represent the community."
"It doesn’t represent Forsyth County,” he said. “And I just can’t believe this is what’s happening.”

talkin loud,,,sayin nuffin'

You're the instigator, the orator of the town
You're the worst when you converse, just a big mouth clown
You talk when you're awake, I heard you talk when you sleep
Has anyone ever told you, that talk is cheap

Run DMC (You Talk Too Much)

I told y'all last week that I was skipping the office Christmas party. Now, I'm glad that I did.

As I walked into the office yesterday, I was immediately hit with questions..."Kyle, how was your party?" "Where did you go?" "What did you do?"

You see...to avoid going to the Christmas party I told them that a birthday party was being thrown for me. That way, I wouldn't have to deal with the fools on last Saturday night. So, I gave them the line about how nice my party was...we had a deejay...and how much fun I had. And they hung on my every word.

Not soon after I told my lie...i mean story about my party...people started talking about the office Christmas party which featured several karokye contests. I thought to myself..."here comes the drama, rumors, and gossip." I don't get down like that. I've never been one to worry about what's going on with the next person. Why worry about their problems...I've got my own.

Before I could make a cup of coffee, my supervisor pulls me in her office. She starts the conversation by telling me about the party. She says that it's probably not the "corporate thing" to do...you know...gossip about folks at the company. I was like "cool...I didn't ask." I really wanted to say..."i don't give a shit!" But that may have been too harsh for her ears. After she tells me this...she proceeds to tell me EVERYTHING that happened. She told me who was drunk...who got hit on...who passed out. Then, she even went to talking about this dude named Mike and his wife. I like Mike. He's a bit nosey but he's cool with me. She said that Mike's wife "looked like his mother". WTF??? Why would you say that?

My response...much like Flav on his show...wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

This brawd proceeds to show me pictures that she took!!! I offered no comments but I looked just to appease her. I couldn't believe how she was talking about how somebody looks when she looks like trash. She's white and her hubby is black...and he ain't no Denzel (lol) but that's besides the point. My point is this...if people are willing to talk bad about others to you...what will they say about you behind your back to others?????

Anybody know people who gossip like this? Ever had to confront em? hollatchaboi!!!!

playa hater

Playa Hater or hater (for short)

Why do women hate on each other?

That was the question that was thrown out by my girl, B, on Twitter today. Very good question.

I'm not saying that guys don't hate on each other...they do...just not like the way that women do. For example, I could be sitting in a room with woman #1. If woman #2 walks into the same room, you can see it all unfold. Woman #1 will "eye scan" woman #2 and she may even frown or turn up her nose.

We all make our own conclusions about a person within the first 11 seconds that we meet them. We are able to conceive notions about a person's...level of education, style, personality, wealth, ethic, etc. That said...SOME women hate other women immediately. I call it...hate at first sight. Why?

Growing up, I always had a great deal of female friends. And I still do...to this day. They would always tell me that "it's hard to be friends with a lotta females and it's easier to have male friends." Why?

They used to always tell me that they'd "never tell their most intimate stuff about their man because they feared that the female would stab them in the back and try to get at their man." Wow! Is that true? Do you have a friend who you DON'T trust around your man?

Don't get it twisted...I'm not sayin that dudes don't hate on each other...b/c we do. It's just not the same.

So, I throw these questions out to the females (and the fellaz) of the 12th Planet. I need to get your thoughts. Have you done any of these things? Are you a hater? If so, we won't bash you. LoL.

Hollatchaboi!!!
