Who We Be

Here I am. Here we are. You see us as we take our stand.

You look with amazement. But you don't know this man.

Fearless. Powerful. Destined for success.

You can step to me if you want but I don't take no mess.

Never bitter. I could never be mad. It's just not me

I am the man that some wish that they could be

We are far from the dudes that you see on the 6 o'clock news

Ask me and I blow you away with my political views.

You see my walk. You love the way we bop down the street

Put some music on and watch us vibe to the beat

The mind of Martin, Malcolm, and Barack

The fight and drive of Tupac

We have what the young kids now call swag

It's just confidence. Admire it. Don't hate...don't be mad

Lover of our queens and those who preceded us to pave the way

You can try to kill me and my brethren...but we're here to stay

We are fathers, husbands, brothers, friends...all of the above

Our women stand by us and adore us. They always show us love

I see you staring, watching every move...just like you're a fan

Who am I? Who are we? We are what you wanna be but can't be. The intelligent black man.

tuesday tag

The CurvyGirl tagged ya boi last week. I'm gonna step up to the plate. The goal is to list 7 random things about myself. Here it izzzzzzzz:

1. Winter Wonderland
I was born on December 9, 1972 in Newark, NJ. On that great day...we had nearly two feet of snow fall on the ground. Maybe the snow was a sign of my greatness! Anyway...having grown up in South Carolina...and spent the last 12 yrs in Atlanta...I've never seen more than 3 inches of snow on the ground.

2. The Name Game
Wanna know what my middle name is? Actually, I don't have a middle name according to my birth certificate and the Garden State. My middle name was never recorded on my birth certificate. I dunno why. After it was printed, my parents told the officials that I HAD a middle name and it should be on that document. They had given me a middle name, Deion, and were befuddled why it wasn't officially recorded. The records were never changed. But when I was enrolled in school, my mother made sure that my middle name was on every document. Ironically, I never really used the middle name on any official document once I got to college. I used the initial "D". I changed my mind once we had our first son. I gave him the name Deion...simply b/c it fit. And he DOES have a middle name.

His middle name is Kyle.

3. It's OUR birthday!

My birthday is December 9th

My youngest son, Brandon, celebrates his birthday on December 10th

My oldest son, Deion, was born on August 9th.

My middle son, Kameron, was born on August 8th

4. Food and Books
I always eat and read at the same time. I dunno why I do it but I've done it all my life. I've been reading a newspaper since I was 8yrs old. I will normally read a paper, magazine, or book with my meal.

5. S-P-E-L-L I-T
When I was in elementary school, I won the spelling bee in 5th and 6th grade. And I'll challenge any of y'all to a contest! LoL

Seriously, spelling words have always come easy to me. I've never really adapted to the "spelling rules". I just know when a word is spelled correctly.

6. Crew Thick
For those that know me...know that I'm all about my crew. I'm one of the few people who I know who are still best friends with the same dudes from elementary/middle school. I think it says a lot about us when you see how our friendships have withstood the test of time.

7. Competiton is None
I am extremely competitive! I don't wanna lose at anything. I don't believe in "letting" anybody win, either. That includes my wife and kids. I don't wanna lose at a game of Spades, video game, a board game, etc. I'm not sure where I got the competitive spirit from but I have it. I pushed me all my life. One of the reasons why I was successful at football and other sports was b/c of my competitive nature.

365???

I stumbled across this article in yesterday's paper. After reading it...I HAD to post it!

Sex every day? That was her gift to him

Author of '365 Nights' in Decatur on Thursday

By HELENA OLIVIERO
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Thursday, September 04, 2008

Some women give their husbands clothes or gadgets for their birthday.

Charla Muller surprised her husband with a gift of sex -- every day for an entire year. "365 Nights" is now a book.

"Sex was one of those things that fell by the wayside. I was tired. We were busy. And it just sort of sneaks up on you," said Muller, who lives in Charlotte. "At the time, we were married eight years and had two young kids and I thought, 'What could I give him that would be highly memorable and not cost a lot and be something only I could give him?'"

Muller, 41, will talk about the experience and the memoir Thursday at Wordsmiths Books in Decatur.

The AJC caught up with her by phone and asked her three questions.

Q: What was your husband's response to the gift?

A: At first, he almost turned me down. He was saying "What about the passion and spontaneity?" And I said we have jobs and two young kids and busy lives. We don't have
any spontaneity any more.

Q: How did it impact your relationship?

A: It was the most transformative year of our marriage. Women know intellectually that it's an important part of marriage. But you need to make it a priority. We stopped watching TV. We planned for it and scheduled it. We learned to keep a dialogue going. And we learned about that daily kindness we needed to keep going to make it happen.

Q: Did you really do the deed every day?

A: We averaged 26 to 28 days a month. ... Intimacy every day is not a long-term sustainable model. But neither is intimacy hardly ever. So [these days] we've landed somewhere in between.

Your thoughts? Would you want sex EVERY day from your mate or spouse for a year. This should be interesting
