Don't Call It a Comeback

Sometimes you have to know when its over. Knowing is half the battle. As a person, you can let foolish pride set in. But in the end, you should be the first person to know when it's time for you to quit. My friends know that one of my favorite athletes of all time is Micheal Jordan. MJ is my dude. When he retired (for the second time), he had just won his 6th championship and had cemented his legacy as arguably the greatest basketball player to ever put on a pair of sneakers. But after he retired, he decided to make a comeback. Bad move. He was nothing like the old Jordan. In fact, that's what he looked like...an old Jordan. Not a good look for him.

One of my favorite r&b groups is making a comeback...New Edition. I saw them in concert here about 2 years ago and they put on one of the best shows that I've ever seen. I used to tell my pops that New Edition was like my generations' version of the Temptations. He's a huge fan of the Temps. I don't know if the Temps went away to ever have to make an official comeback. But NE is coming back. And they're bringing the King of R&B, Bobby Brown (lol) with them. I wish them well and I'll support the new cd.

On the other hand...some folk need to just let it go. Shut it down. Close up shop. One of the first people that come to mind is Michael Jackson. Word on the street is that Jacko is planning a comeback album. *crickets*

Jacko's time has come and gone. Long gone. He just needs to get the animals together and chill out somewhere.

What's your take? Give me a person/group or 2 who needs to make a comeback in music/entertainment or sports. And also give me a person/group or 2 who needs to call it quits. For those of you who think Hammer should make a comeback...I promise I won't laugh. Haaaaa

btw...i borrowed this title from my girl -1-. I hope she don't mind.

But parents got to parent their kids to keep them out of cages

LMAO @ Hilary Clinton!!! Sooo true

    @ Hadassah
Ohhhh how I miss Lauryn Hill

    @ Miz
lmao @ you! KC and Jo Jo made BOTH lists?

You don't like the idea of a NE comeback?

  5. I'd rather have Bel Biv Devo back then New Edition. Bel Biv Devoe seemed to filter out all the crazy members that were in New Edition, although I still have a baby crush on Ralph.

Since Lauryn Hill is a given and everyone else already said it, I will say the FUGEES

MC LyTe - we need a real female MC right now

Amy Whinehouse even though she aint been gone that long... when she left she went full throttle...lol

Whitney Houston - and she's already working on it

Dru Hill - even though they just tried and failed...lol; have you seen that video?

112 - Their all trying to do solo projects now but I think they are more powerful together

    Carl Thomas

    EnVogue

    Lucy Pearl

    Avant

    Case

    Blackstreet

    Debarge

    The Clipse

    Color Me Badd

    Deborah Cox

Toni Braxton (even though she doing her thing out in vegas I want another album dammit... and for ya'll that slept on her last one Libra... you trippin')

Debra Killings (gospel singer that I love that just fell off the face of the earth)

    Tracy Chapman

    Kelly Price

Maxwell - cuz he taking too damn long with this trilogy thing

    Mint Condition

    Slick Rick

ok I think that's enough for right now

and this aint music or sports but Dave Chappelle

  6. Should

D'Angelo - just sad what happened to him

Biggie and Pac - If ya'll think they really dead......Well I just don't know what to tell you.

SuperHead - She should leave book writing alone and get back to skeezin. The world needs more skeezers.

    Not -
Rakim - Arguably the Michael Jordan of Hip Hop. Just fade to black my brother.

Al B Sure - Probably the worst singing star of the 80's. Heard he's doing radio now.

    Soldja Boy -
I know, I know...he technically ain't left. But he's a gimmick not a rapper. When he does go away. STAY AWAY. LMAO

    ReplyDelete
  7. Wow @ Eb
She said DeBarge, Case and I think all will agree that you took the cake with Tracy Chapman. HOLY SHHHHHHHHHH. LMAO

    ReplyDelete
  8. @ Eb the Celeb
I'm pulling for Whitney. I don't know how she's gonna do it but hopefully it works for her

Your list is pretty long! haaaa

Dave Chapelle HAS to come back

    @ Brad
D'Angelo! Good call. That's my dude.

"SuperHead - She should leave book writing alone and get back to skeezin. The world needs more skeezers." LMAO!!! Soooo true. We do need more skeezers in this world

I gotta disagree about Rakim. I've been waiting on this "comeback" album for a long time.

    Good stuff

  9. Hey 12Kyle

I love New Edition! I was the one LL was talking about with the button on my sleeve. LOL
I went to see them in concert this past summer and had the best time ever! Not only did they put an incredible show but they looked great too! I felt like I was 16 again for those short 3 hours.

But I have to say K-ci and Jo Jo need to hang it up. They were horrible.

I am a fan of Janets but it's time to let it go.

I would love to Shai back on the scene. Those brothers could sing.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Please come back...

    MC LYTE
    Yo-Yo
    Queen Latifah
    SWV
    Eric Benet
    Dave Chapelle
    Adina Howard
    Miki Howard
    Blackstreet
    Guy

    Dont do it...

    Hillary Clinton
John McCain (Ole Man River !!)
    Montel Jordan
Dr. Dre's ex-wife with the minnie mouse voice?

    ReplyDelete
  11. @ LRenee
NE puts on a SHOW!!! They definitely make you feel young again.

Did Shai ever do anything after that 1st cd?

    @ Trish
Mannnnn, I'd love to see Guy come back.

    Dre's ex wife is Miche'le

    ReplyDelete
  12. LMAO @ Bobby being the King. Whitney should have been pimp slapped for the comment. I wonder if she still feels that way being that she is his old Tenderonie that got left at the Heartbreak Hotel.

    Sit Yo Arse Down List

Kells-I heart R. Kelly's music, but dude is on some other ish right now

Mariah- No one understands all that damn mumbling

Janet- Can this chick sing in a voice other than a whisper?

Ron Isley- That last CD pissed me off

    ReplyDelete
  13. Should:

Please don't throw stuff at me when I say Destiny's Child was hot as a group. I'd love just one more album from them.

Sinbad was the funniest man back in the day.

    Shouldn't:

If Lauryn Hill continues to wear red & blue clown makeup I'm going to insist she stays gone.

Foxxy Brown - lost whatever remote sense of sexy and talent she had about three court appearances ago.

    ReplyDelete
  14. NEED THAT:

Sade...my love for you is stronger than pride.

D'Angelo...hope you get clean; you have that Jimmy Hendrix effect...

Maxwell...my wife loves you, ergo, I must.

Jesus...come on back now, bruh. Times are bad.

The Wire...how can you kill-off arguably the best show on cable TV?

Michael Vick....hope you come back and win the Superbowl MVP on dey azz...

    KICK ROCKS:
Janet Jackson...until she learns that she's 40+ and should be wearing clothes and catering to a more mature audience. And stop toying with Jermaine Dupree's emotions.

Jesse Jackson...we got it now, don't feel bad. You help lead us this far..I think.

Eddie Murphy...need a different character voice. Every character sounds like the Klumps....not the same after Boomerang.

Ricky Williams (Miami Dolphins)...you blew your shot at greatness.

Celebutants...Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and anyone else who keeps invading my media space without doing shyt and not being attractive!

Michael Eric Dyson (cultural critic)....not sure who made you the elder voice of my generation or who told you that the psuedo rap thing you do is cool. It's not! It's foolish.

Roy Jones (boxer)...Loved your skills in your prime, but it's time to hang-up the gloves. It's okay. We all had to do it one time in our lives.

Phil Mickelson (golfer)...give it up; you'll NEVER catch Tiger Woods. Your legacy will be just that...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm not sure about an NE comeback. I saw them perform an ole fave, "I don't love her...I try to tell myself, but you can see it in my eyes!!!"

Of course I know all the dance steps...but anyway...when i saw them do that ONE number they were sweating like the concert was done already! I've been luvin 'em since I used to request their videos on Hot Trax way back in the day, so I'd most likely support them - but it might be time to let go.

I'd love to see Maxwell make a comeback.

If Lauryn could get her shyt together, I would LOVE to see her back as well.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ Queen
You know...and I know...the Bobby IS the King of R&B! LMAO!!! You're right. She should have been slapped.

Ditto to RKellz. Why is he not in jail?

*sigh* Janet is done. She's still fine but she's done. LOL

    Isn't Mr. Biggs in jail?

    @ PrettyParker
If DC doesn't get back together, how are those other 2 chicks gonna survive? LOL

It hurt me to see Ms Hill looking like Homie D Clown. Damn!

    @ Rezidl
Ditto on Jesus. We need you RIGHT NOW!

You know how I feel about a comeback for The Wire. I feel like a fiend right now. I've reverted to watching the 1st season again.

I'd love to see Vick comeback in a major way. I hope its here in Atlanta but I doubt it. If you're reading this Mike Vick...keep ya head up playa. And don't drop the soap. lol

Yeah. Jesse can beat it. He can take Rev Al with him, too!

    Good list, son!

    But that is SOOO true.

    What about H-Town? Remember them?

I can't believe that I haven't seen Goodie Mob listed. Come on guys.

I agree Lauryn Hill, SWV, MC Lyte, and Queen.

    Sports my vote...Willie Jefferies.

Boys II Men just released a "new" cd at the end of last year.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @ OD
They were prolly sweatin b/c they are old and are still tryin to do those same moves.

Did Maxwell fall off the face of the earth or what?

    @ Rezidl
Thanks for the scoop on D'Angelo. I'm a fan. I read the article. It's been 8 years? Wow!

    @ mlinz
I heard that Goodie Mob is in the studio

I'd love to see Willie J make a comeback. But only in the Garnet and Blue

    ReplyDelete
  20. MLINZ...I don't think H-Town will get back together. One of the twins died in a car accident. Their last CD was pure FIYYAHHHH!!! I could be biased though because they are from Houston. LOL

@Kyle...Yeah, I think he's in jail, but hell, that didn't stop Shyne and Ol Dirty B from making hits behind the bars! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'd like to see the late 80's early 90's come back.

And the 2000's need to sit down...even though I'm diggin Rick Ross.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Come backs:

    N.E
    Buju Banton
    Carl Thomas

    Stay Back:
Lauryn Hill, I saw her perform after that live album and she was a wreck and clearly it hasn't gotten better. She needs to get therapy.

Missy Elliot NO NO NO! Its old and tired now.

Souljah Boy I agree should just fade to black.

Beyonce: She needs to do a lil Relax, Relate, Release and give her fans a minute to breathe. There is a such thing as overkill.

Kelly Rowland: Poor thing you put the album out three times and nothing happen. Go on vacation and pray for Destiny's Child reunion.

    ReplyDelete
  23. who should come back?

Craig Mack- he had such potential, but P. Diddy (or whatever he's calling himself these days) was too busy sucking Biggie's d*ck to really get him out there... and sure, he's hideous, but so is Jay-Z and people still love him...

    who shouldn't?

all of the R&B groups from the 80s and 90s... I love those mo-fos too, but they belong in another time and place and it's not here and now... it would be like bringing dinosaurs to chill in Central Park...

    ReplyDelete
  24. lol @ hammer.

I would love to see the beggar come back all the way back that is, Keith Sweat & Lauren Hill. I would also like to hear more of aaron hall.

I am with you on Micheal Jackson laying it down, all the songs are starting to sound alike. Same Goes for R Kelly.

    ReplyDelete
  25. F$%K it List...I'm with you on Beyonce....do an Anita Baker and just go live life a little. I don't need to see your face on my cereal box, my ipod AND my gas card....it doesn't mean you aren't one of the best performers ever...cause you are....just get lost.

It's like being attracted to the finest woman and then meeting her and she ends up wanting to spend every waking minute under your nose....shyt get lost for a second and let me miss you a bit.

    ReplyDelete

  27. SIT IT DOWN LIST

jay-z (is he gonna rap until he's 50? besides, he "retired" once already...au revoir!)

beyonce (at least for 2 years so we can miss her. with albums, re-releases of the albums, tours, cell phones, house of dereon-children's clothes, prom dresses, class rings, etc.....pretty soon she'll be peddling house of dereon toilet tissue...over exposure much?)

mariah carey (or please evolve your sound and look. i really need you to stop wearing too small clothes from the 90's and butterflies everywhere like your 12...you're about 38...please stop)

bobby brown (look, i love him for entertainment purposes....but gone are the days of tenderoni. it will never be the same...give up the ghost.

    COME BACK TO ME LIST

    maxwell
    floetry
    d'angelo
whitney houston ( i might be wishing on a star...but she had such a talent....maybe she can stop smoking, take oxygen treatments, re-construct her vocal cords and come back like a tiger.....ok, it's a dream, but i wish)

    @ eb,
mint just released a single so they're on their way back (YAY!).

carl just released last summer so i doubt he'll release for a minute

blackstreet had some crazy stuff going on with some of the members...but teddy sure rocked it on hip-hop honors last year!

i don't think lucy pearl/en vogue will ever get it together with all of their member issues either.

    ReplyDelete
  29. *whew*
Just thinking of all the folks that need to call it quits...

I will keep it brief though :)

    Should come back:

Mint Condition (I still love them to this day)

Alexander O'Neal (when he is clean and sobered up)

Brett Farve (Just one more season.)

Those that should exit, stage left and NEVER come back:

Kwame Kilpatrick (that's a darn shame)

Wendy Williams (I am so sick of her!)

Flava Flav (with rapping and that darn "reality" TV show. Let him find love already!)

    @ Rezidl
    Good analogy, bruh

    @ swag_ambassador
Welcome to the 12th Planet, bruh. Thanks for coming thru.

I agree. An Eminem cd is much needed in the game right now. Also, good call on Darien Brockington. Very talented and underrated. Can't wait for the new Roots cd to come out, too!

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Poca - i would love to see Silk come back. Saw their lead singer in concert about a year ago and that brother can still blow...great music.

-love me some Mint Condition (but see i don't think they ever went away, they are like Maze and Frankie Bev...timeless)

@PCD - I didn't hear that Boyz to Men album, they need to stop trying to be young with their nearing 40 azzes and just go ahead and do some that ole skool R&B Soul music, that's what's up.

You may have never heard of them, but i loved, LOVED this group call SOLO - man they were singing that ole skool stuff, okay, they made that song "Where do you want me to put it?"...y'all remember that? Anyway, i loved their debut cd, and their second cd wasn't bad, but they were trying to get into the hip hop market and then they vanished.

Chico Debarge - man i loved this dudes debut album...he needs to stick with what he knows and bring that ish back.

@kyle - I just think they would do better doing the ole skool circuit...cuz their music is cool, and they can always do their old hits, but they aint' really got the voices, to do nothing really hot for today...and ya'll know Johnny looking suspicious.

-Bring back En Vogue - the best singing DIVA's in the world.
