top 100 songs

VH-1 recently came up with a list for the top 100 songs in hip hop history. I'm nor really sure what the criteria was to be on this list. And I'm not sure who made VH-1 the authority on hip hop to even DO a list. I mean, BET should have done this. As much as I despise that network, they probably could have come up with a better list

Nevertheless, I understand that lists like this are all subjective. But I need to see what YOU think about it. With that said...take a look at the list. YOU be the judge...

  2. ok...you rright about this... BET shoulda did this....

how dare VH1 only put tupac on there ONCE!!!!!

  3. I knew this list was BS when I saw Lil John's ghetto a** on there... and I'm not even gonna start on WHY Biggie is number 7... that's some bull right there... and Nelly's dumb-country-a** should be nowhere near this list.

you know what, let me get out of here before my pressure goes up...

    ReplyDelete
  4. no, you know what, I'm back, dammit-

Biggie should be higher on the list, like in the top 5, as should some of the old cats who actually had something to say.

If they were gonna include Kanye why did they pick THAT song? Same with Tupac; I'm not a fan of his but I KNOW he had better songs than THAT song.

And JJ FAD is on the list? ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?!?!

    That's it... I'm out...

  6. the list is bogus without PAC in the top 5

    end of convo!

  7. That is one of the worst lists with the word Hip Hop in it I've ever seen.
    It truly offends me

next to nothing in that list says "hip Hop" sand about 10 songs.

    We're talking 100 GREATEST

There is NO way that anyone with Lil in their name, Eve, Em, Cam, NERD, Three 6, PM Dawn, Arrested development, LTrimm, Warren G, etc etc belongs within miles of this list.

    I could be mistaken...but

La Di Da Di is not on the list?

    ...gotcha.

    Hip Hop. Right.

    e.

  8. ummmm...well lets get to it.

First of all. Common's "I Use To Love Her" is a top 15 song. It was like number 68 or something...and they put Nelly's "Hot In Here" as being more important.

Where in the hell was MC Ehit "Straight Up Meance"?

Biz Markie "Just A Friend" should have been lower on the list.

TI is a great artist...however I don't think "What You Know About That" should have been on the list.

They picked the wrong Pac song...."Brenda Had A Baby" was a better track than "I Get Around".

    ReplyDelete
  9. oh wait...where is ATCQ "Scenario" that track was bigger then "check the rhime".

Man Let me compose a list. It would be the truth.

However, I don't have a problem with the top 3 picks.

  10. @ ms. uncensored
Yes! You are first! I have to agree with you. In my opinion, there's no way that Fiddy cent should make this list!

    @ flyyest
As horrible as BET is right now, I think they'd get it right

    @ Jaded Santana
Lil John? Ohhhh hellllllz no! If he's on the list then I should be on the list! You're right...this will make your blood pressure rise

    @ Jaded Santana
JJ Fad??? They had 1 song and it's not in the top 200

    @ Eb the Celeb
I wouldn't put any of Pac's songs in the top 5...buuuuut...you are right. This is bogus

    @ e
PM Dawn!!! LMAO!!! I thought they were singers.

    @ dessex
You could make a case for Common's song to be in the top 10

    @ dessex
I feel you. I KNOW that I could come up with a better list

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ummm...did they REALLY include PM Dawn in the top 100 hip hop songs????

PM DAWN???? I had to stop taking it seriously after that one.

I am not sure if BET could have made a better list because all of them (BET, MTV and VH-1) are owned and operated by the same people now.

Maybe they should have polled the audience at the Hip-Hop Honors to come up with a better list?

  12. Lord - not fight the power. Geez - I totally remember that!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hey Brother!

What!!! No Trick n Kitten on the list....lol....just kiddin....that was my rap duo in high school....lol..I wonder if he is still making music??? Anyway...I say you show them how it's suppose to be done one day this week!

  14. This list is wack! I just watched to hear the songs. I mean really

    21. Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force- Planet Rock that is nuts. This is major song!

49 Boogie Down Productions: My Philosophy

51 Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew: The Show

Nelly topping De La Soul that is all kind of wrong

BET DID A WORSE JOB! . The top 10 should be legends that changed the game. I'm done.

    ReplyDelete
  15. oh HELL NO:

    61 Slick Rick: Children's Story

100 Biz Markie: Just A Friend
96 DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince: Parents Just Don't Understand

54 MC Lyte: Cha Cha Cha, Lil Kim over LYTE> BS. I think we need to redo this lists. Lets start taking votes,

And really is that the only song they could come up with for TuPac. What about Keep your head up.
    This is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm not old enough to know too much about hip hop, but if I may throw my two cents in:

Whay is #59 even on the list?

They could have picked a different song for Tupac(#14).

    LOL at #86! What?

    Also, LOL at #89...wow!

However, I do agree with the #1...maybe it's me, but I love that song :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. pm dawn - what the fk
    no rawkwon - ice cream
no dead prez - hip hop

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with you Kyle when you say you wouldn't put any of Pac's songs in the top five, though I'm sure Pac fans are probably side eye'g me right now. lol

P.E. - should not be number one.

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - should be further down the list.

I could go on and on...that list definitely needs help.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I saw this over the weekend and thought the list was wick wick WACK! There is soooo much wrong with this list that I would be writing FOREVER! 50, Lil John? Pete Rock and CL not in the top 20...GTFOH!! I don't know if BET would have done a better job they with VH1 and MTV are all owned by Viacom! Fight the Power was a great song and as I watched the special I understood the reasoning but I just don't think it's number one! This list is the WORST!

    ReplyDelete
  20. BTW...where in the heck is the Geto Boys "Mind Playin Tricks On Me"?

Okay this list is some bull officially. How could they leave that song out.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't even know half the songs on here.....I think these are the top 100 CLUB hip hop songs....i don't know my list would be different....i don't do all that East coast music besides biggie, nas and Jay z.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I saw this on vh1....couldn't disagree more...

    ReplyDelete
  23. kyle, I understand that these lists are subjective too, but how are you gonna make "I Get Around" the Tupac song for this list? What about "Keep Ya Head Up?" What about "I Ain't Mad At Cha?" And that's only if you have to choose a single.
I think they coulda picked another Eve song too. It should have been "Satisfaction" or "What Ya'll Really Want." And again, that's if they had to choose a single.
I don't know about ya'll but my favorite songs are sooooooo not the singles.
I will agree that "They Reminisce Over You" should be on the list, but it should have been much higher.
At any rate, I think they missed the mark on about 40 of these songs.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ Kay C the Quiet Storm
That would have been a better idea. I'm not confident in BET. I'm just hoping that they could do a better job.

    @ Darius
I don't have a problem with PE being #1. I could also make a case for The Message (#5)

    @ Keisha the Kitten
LoL!!! I dunno if I could come up with a list by myself. I'd prolly need some help from the rest of the 12th Planet.

    @ The F$%K it List
You'll get no argument from me. You've made some VALID points!!!

    @ Beautifully.Conjured.Up
They prolly picked #59 (Shimmy Shimmy Ya) b/c ODB is no longer with us

    @ rawdawgbuffalo
Raekwon and dead prez is a must!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ OD
I can't think of one of Pac's songs that are top 5 worthy. That's not to discredit Pac, tho. I love Pac but he doesn't have a top 5 song.

    @ ShellyShell
There is no way that Lil John should be in the top 500 songs! LOL

    @ dessex
That song should DEFINITELY be on the list!!!!

    @ Sexxy Luv
Get ya #2 pencil out so that you can be schooled. LOL

    @ Charles
    Yeah. This list is garrrrrrrbage

    @ Smarty Jones
I don't think I'd put Eve on any top 100 songs list. Pac has had some great songs but I dunno if they could crack the top 5

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, I would've put Tupac's "Dear
Mama" in the top ten..I thought that was one of his best songs ever. (I also loved "Me and My Girlfriend" by Pac, but I wouldn't put it in any top 5 or 10.) I agree though that people like Lil Wayne, Lil Jon et al haven't been around long enough to be in the best of anything.(Neither should Nelly.)
I'll tell about a guilty pleasure
that is on the list, but really shouldn't be- #100-"Just a Friend."
Me and my boys used to get drunk and see who could sing that song the worse...Can't tell you how many times the cops ran us off South Street at three in the morning, singing -"YOU...YOU got whut ah neeeeed...but you say Ahm
    jus a friend....hiccup!!!"-lololol

    ReplyDelete
  27. LMAO @ sexxy...

ummmm and I agree with keith on the pac...dear mama was way better than I get around.....ummm keep your head up..... I mean they are doin this list no justice for a lot a rappers....they coulda picked better songe.....M∂Ñ ...even nelly and eve had better songs than what they put  there...... but how much u wanna bet....WHITE PEOPLE MADE THE LIST!!! Hahhahahahhahah

    ReplyDelete
  28. Boo. Boo. and Boo. I mean they have a decent representation of artists, but then they pick a totally randoom song. I can't live without my radio? That's the best LL? Seriously? And only two Jay Z songs? VH-1 needs to stick with I love the 80s.

    ReplyDelete
  29. For me, Puff Daddy, Diddy, P. Diddy, or whatever he goes by these days shouldn't have even been remotely CLOSE to this list, I don't care if he was just one of a few featured on the song.

Nas, Tupac, and Common should have been in the top 10, period.

For the Beastie Boys, I think their song should have been "Paul Revere". That beat to this day is still insane.

Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys are NOT Hip Hop. They make danceable music, but they are not Hip Hop. That is just like saying Deion Sanders is a rapper.

"I Get Around" for Tupac??? Come on people! Tupac has classics and the best they could come up with was "I Get Around"?? Why not add " Pumps and a Bumps" by Hammer too while you're at it!

The only thing I can say that special did for me was make me remember songs to download. Whoever comprised it has absolutely NO clue.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The list was supposedly made up from viewers that voted. But I have to wonder what individuals watch VH1 on the regular? And what qualifies them to create a HIP HOP list? The fact that# 15 Eminem: Stan is so close to the #1 slot and ahead of so many other songs that are far more worthy makes the list and it's compilers suspect. But at least they have chosen 2 all time greats to fill the first and second slots.

    Don't worry....I'll wait.
