I heard this song earlier today and i couldn't get it outta my head. I've always liked De La Soul. This is one of my favorites off the AOI Bionix cd.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the song...this is De La Soul's tribute to the thick sistas. You know...the ones who are not too big but not too small. You know...the ones who has the desire to drop 15 pounds. Those are the sistas who will hit the elliptical machine for 30 mins...then do anutha 30 on the treadmill. She is that sista that is still carrying just a little bit of that baby weight from a few years ago. She wants the bust size but she still wants to be able to get into those jeans. She might even be the one who is hating on Erin, who is a size 4 but complains that she is "too big". LOL

Summer is right around the corner. When it gets hot, you gotta come outta those clothes! Bottom line. LOL. Spring is here for most of us. And I KNOW that we are all headed to the gym b/c I have a hard time finding a parking spot. Sooooo, what are YOU doing to lose, gain, or maintain your weight.

  1. LMAO @ hatin on Erin who's a size 4. Not I, not I says The Queen. I love my thickness, but yeah, I've been hitting the gym lately, and yes, I am that chick on doing 30 on the elliptical machine and moves over to the leg press, then to squats because the thing you are trying to preserve (my arse) is the first thing that tries to vanish. LOL. While I love my curves, I would gladly donate some of my boobs, though.

    I take it we thick-ums are back in style now?

    First, Ima have to look up that song. I'm a thick luv brotha myself and...well we'll just leave it at that.

    I'm about to start the Body For Life program. I did it last year and had great success with it, but unfortunately it was Body For About Six Months LOL! I'll probably jump on Weight Watchers too. A lot of people have had success with that.

    And Queen? Er...nevermind again.

  4. Well, I'm thinking if i cut that backyard once a week, i should be just where i want...NAW, back to the treadmill and some serious ab work. Not thick, Not thin, right in the middle, but with a little carving here and there, I'll be just Fine!

    I been lifting at least 3 days a week since August. I'm up to 5 days a week now total workout. Wanted to lose weight before my cruise. I only got 7 more to go. I can see my stomach again. Not a 6 pack but kinda like a 3 and a possible. LOL

    But I'm probably in better shape now than I've been in 10 years.

    I've been drinking about 3-4 32oz bottles of water a day, and I walk/run 5-6 miles a day (a TRUE advantage of being in Orlando, FL). Going back to the doc on Thursday to see if I can put some weights on my messed up knees, but so far, so good. I started the year at around 273 (i.e. TWO DAYUM MUCH!!!), and am now at 251. I have a target of somewhere around 235-240 by July, and I'll be DAMNED if I ain't gonna make it. Good luck to everyone else, and I'll keep you posted......

  7. I'd like to get more disciplined about the workouts, but life gets in the way... I can't think about that right now, because for the next few weeks I have a bunch of stuff on my plate that needs my full attention.

    just thank goodness I'm a die-hard pedestrian- don't have a license or car, don't know how to drive and don't want to learn, and get car sick like a mo-fo; I walk everywhere and it keeps me from gaining weight!

  9. I signed up for softball, first practice is Thursday, I am excited!!!

    And of course back to the gym. This is a little slow for me, I need to make a daily thing again.

    I have been going to the gym... as of late been doing really good... usually 3-4 times a week...

  11. It's funny, I never worried about my weight until I started moving up in the corporate world.

    I'm not a thick woman, but I am flabby in the waist since kid #3 has been here. I do mind what I eat and park in the furthest spot in the lot so I can walk. I take the stairs when possible and swim with the kids a few days a week. Above that, not much for now.

  13. LOL. Lose. I just joined the gym--paid for 3 months and got one month free. So not a game! And just in case I'm not feeling like going--I have a backup because my boyfriend and I joined together, so even if I don't feel like it, he's going to nag me until we go. HA.

    Besides, I need to get in shape for Portugal in July.

    CBW....nice one. Appreciate seeing how many folks are seriously paying attention to their health...errr, and their looks!

    Been getting at it hard since January....4 days a week at the office gym. Cardio...one mile on the treadmill at a good clip. Weights...targeting one body part per day to sculpt....And, a killer ab routine....

    On Saturday, the wife has me doing the Hip-Hops Abs DVD routine. If any of you have seen the guy leading the DVD, you'd know why this is a hilarious notion!!!!

    I have been working out for a while now. But, I can't take one day off. If I stop even for just one day it slowly turns into 3 days -a month.
    Hubby and I work out together on occasion. BTW...Hip Hop abs is hot! You don't even feel like you are working out. Sean is so cute too. So what if his bread is buttered on the other side..LOL
    I might have to get my husband to try it too.

    Trying to tone and slinder. I've done pretty well since the baby, but I have a few more improvements left. So I....eat less more times per day. Two-a-days at least twice per week...more if time permits. Lots of cardio, mostly running outside(only if the pollen isn't too bad)then its indoors. No food after 7. Drink lots of H2O.
    Sooooo haters beware! LOL!

  18. Man, do i need to get back in the gym. Running works best for me, but my knees can't take it like they used to.

    Crazy, but I listened to that song yesterday, along with "Trying". A friend I swap music with hit me with it about a year ago, but I wasn't hip to it at the time.

  19. I've been at Yoga every day (55 minutes)and I do a 2hr Pilates class. This is my regular routine so it is not that hard for me to maintain my current weight.

    And ofcourse walking NYC blocks in high heels helps no elliptical for me give me 5th avenue :)

    Pretty Parker....I'm officially jealous that you get to swim a few days a week. Your pool or local pool? In the DC area, where I am, pools are limited and out of the way, but I'd love to have my own.

  23. Well Kyle being a thick chick I could stand to lose about 20 lbs. Its a shame cause last year I was the size that I needed to be and I was complaining then. Women we are never satified.

    Anyway I must lose about 20 lbs if I want to become a cop. Cant be running after the criminals and be huffing and puffing,lol.

    Thanks for giving a shot out to the thick chicks because even though I am thick, I still think I am beautiful and the guys dont disagree,lol!!!

  25. i joined the gym something like two months ago. not big nor small. 6'2 227 last checked. i guess i just want to add muscle and maintain my stamina. i like a thick woman that has a sweet soul. the evil ones should be soaked in gasoline.

    ok, starting after my bday weekend...imma jus do sit ups so the fat wont go to my stomach...

    i have stretch marks on my stomach so doing that, i still aint gonna wear a 2piece...lol

  27. Rezidl, I see we are neighbors with me being in NoVA and all.

    I'm a member of Lifetime. Been with them for years. Since it so friggin expensive, I try hard to make sure we use all of the benefits (free childcare, lap pool and family pool, towels, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, weights, dance class, rock wall, etc, etc) as much as possible.

    Shoot, I'm not the one to just give my money to a place and not make use of their services (spa and massages too!)

    I try to maintain by working out 3 to 4 times per week and eating properly. But I do this for the sole purpose of maintaining my health. People come in different shapes, sizes and body types. It doesn’t matter your size the main concern should be that you are healthy. People can be a healthy size 14 but an unhealthy (anorexic or bulimic) size 4.

    I love them all. Thick in the waist. You know every man wants something to hold onto from time to time. I have know problem with a thick sista, rican, white, girl or islander girl.
    Anyway just be happy with what your working with because some to be honest some thick sistas are more flexable than the skinny ones.

    Eating after 6pm is important...but what you eat after 6pm is even more important. I think you can eat at that time but you probably should be doing some type of physical activity after you eat.

  35. Good post!!! I have to say I'm at the point of mentally training myself for weight lose. I know what I need to do & I even know what I have to do BUT my mind & my will aint on the same page yet. I want them to be in agreement for good this time around!!! Praying for discipline as we speak......'yall pray wit me now' meanwhile those who are already in action are my inspiration & motivation....and hopefully I'll be a motivation to someone else when I start faithfully working it out!!!!
