Tha Jam

Music. We all love it. Personally, I don't know where my life would be without it. There are some songs that motivate you. Some songs will make you sad. And then there are some songs that will MOVE you. When I say MOVE you, I don't mean a song that will make you tap your feet or bob your head. Nor do I mean the song that will make you wave your hands in the air...and wave'em like you just don't care. LOL. Today's vibe is...that joint that will get you on the dance floor!! The song that you will knock folk OVER on your way to the dance floor. And for those who are wondering...yes...I can dance.

My song is "Shake What Ya Momma Gave Ya" by Poison Clan. If you've never heard it before...I'm surprised. The song came out when I was in college in the early 90s. There's nothing special about the lyrics (kinda nasty and misogynistic) and the beat was that "Miami Bass" that was popular back then. But when it came on at a party, I was on the dance floor! And I will say that I've "sweat-ed out many perms on that song alone." And if you don't believe me then you can come to Atlanta and I'll sweat your perm out on that song! LOL.

What's the song that you have to dance to. Let's have some fun with this...

  1. Since i'm in the ATL, i guess i'll be FIRST!

Man, i can't think of the name of the song...but it will have me jumping up from the beat...

"Y'all want this party started right...y'all want this party started quickly right...SET IT OFF"

    have a great day!

12Kyle...don't know if I can drop a second one on you. But this intro will also get me up...

  4. 12Kyle....I was just thinking about this driving to work listening to Steve Harvey showcasing Whitney Houston. Music moves me and I digg that...always has. Wish I had been somehow connected to the industry though I cannot sing a lick.

....the groove joint has always been "Always and Forever"....makes you do that slowdrag alternating hip-sway with your eyes closed move you learned from your nasty uncle...

....the uptempo piece is LL's "Don't Call it a Comback".....I been here for years if ya'll forgot!!!!

Set It Off is a very good jam. And people will knock you down when that song comes on. Didn't know that you were an ATLien? Welcome 2 tha Planet!

    @ Brad
Leave it to Brad to give TWO songs when I asked for one! LOL. Can't front on EPMD. Very tight

    @ Sojourner G
I remember that one! Every time I hear that song it reminds me of the house parties that my parents used to have when I was a kid. Thanks for coming thru to tha Planet. That poetry that you're doing is sick...like the bird flu. LOL. I'ma put you on my blog crew.

    @ Rezidl
We all can sing...we all just don't sound good. LOL. Always and Forever was the jam that you slow dragged to in 8th grade and felt the girls booty while you sang in her ear.

  6. Let me clear my throat uh huh uh huh!

To be honest...I LUV to dance and will dance to anything with a banging beat. I'll get pissed off later that the words are degrading to woman...but at the moment when I'm dancing...I don't give a youknowwhat!

I have left the club walking with just one shoe on...because that's how much my feet hurt. Funny thing is...I never feel the ache while I'm dancing! LOL

This is so true. Most of the times we don't care about the words...just the beats. LOL. You left the club with one shoe? Wow! Did you sweat your perm out that night? LOL

    @ Brad
LOL. I see you have a problem with following instructions...that's all

    @ LRenee

But that being said.....don't know of the one you're talkin about.

    Remember "Break for Love"?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes, Brad I agree house is a whole different breed now, but Im talking about the back in the day, good house music.

Bia-Bia- By lil John, Lord before my baby and during my drinking days that was my bitch what song, when chyna white came in flowing it was all over make me wanna git ignant and do donuts in the middle of the street haha!

Best friend- Brandy- that song was out when I first moved back from Texas and me and my now hubby got back together...sweet memories.

My, My, My-Johnny gill lost my 'V-card" to my hubby on that cut.

freaky tales- too short, tree smokin' days, I had so much slump in my truck they could hear that song BLAPPING from the airport with planes flying overhead!

  17. @ Trish
I'm not sure about house music. I'll ask Weja Priest. He's the only house head that I know.

    @ Eb the Celeb
Don't knock my song. Like I said, I'll sweat a perm out on that joint. LOL

Get Me Bodied has all of the women running to the dance floor. The extended version is real tight. That's one of those songs where you have move out the way and let the ladies do their thing.

    @ MsPuddin
    Whitney? LOL.

This Is How We Do It...LMAO! That is funny. I can't front...when it was out...it was the ish.

-In the midst of it all - Yolanda Adams
    -No weapon - Fred Hammond

  20. @ TravelDiva
I'm not gonna blame you for your entries. It's Brad's fault. LOL. Whuchuknowbout Da Rockwilder??? That was my favorite joint off the Blackout cd

    @ Rezidl
Doesn't PrettyBlack remind you of somebody that we went to school with?

I saw Montell perform that song with a live band at a lounge for 20 minutes straight. No lie. I was like..."I wish he'd do another damn song." Then, I remembered that he didn't have any other songs. LOL

  21. Being in South Florida when all those "shake what ya mama gave" songs came out, they will always get me on the floor bending it over and shakin' like a salt shaker.

But the song that gets me on the dancefloor is "Sim simma who got the keys to my beamer," or "Murder She Wrote."

Sorry for violating the one song rule.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jewells
    It's ok. It's Brad's fault. LOL

Reggae music will definitely get people on the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jewells...you don't have to apologize to Kyle. Let him know he's not the boss of you. LMAO.

I hate this stupid blog anyway...I only respond cause he paid me. I hate Kyle too.

Who am I kidding....I can't stay mad at you. Minnie Me..you complete me.

Poison Clan was a beast. PE is a good call. I remember that song like it was yesterday.

  26. I'm kinda disappointed that NO ONE thought of THIS song....'cuz whenever I was in Atlanta, and I went to OSS (Ol' Skool Saturday), and they played "Groove Me" by Guy, for some reason, as SOON as I heard Cowboy mix it in, I went into 'video' mode and started dancing like I was on the set (don't act like I'm the ONLY one either....). Something about that joint just made me get busy on the floor........

....other joints (and I KNOW you said 'one' song Mighty Mouse, but you'll be aight....)......

and I know I'm going back on this one......but,

    "Payback" James Brown

"One More Chance" (either version) Biggie

"Before I Let Go" Maze feat. Frankie Beverly

"Southern Hospitality" Ludacris ("tho' dem bows....")

@ Brad......if you wanna go for a slow joint......I see your Lenny Williams and raise you an "Adore" or "Scandalous" by Prince

    ReplyDelete
  27. most of the songs people already commented on will def. get me out my seat, 'cause I'm hardly ever in my seat.

but if you really, really want me to get up and sweat out my do, American music won't do it for me. You gotta give me some old, deep country merengue with that classic soca beat, preferably by Juan Luis Guerra... then you'll really see who The Jaded NYer is:
