Lack of interest?

Nah

Maybe it's old age?

Nah

Just can't relate to those who don't have a damn thang to say.

That's what I was thinking after I saw the list. I was drawn a website b/c I had rec'd an email from hiphopdx.com. The email was titled The Top 25 Hip Hop Albums of 2008. I went to the website and saw their list. There were a few albums that made the list that I had copped. That was cool. However, there were some albums from some dudes who I neva heard of. I was like... who is THAT guy? I'll spare you the list of their top 25. I'll tell you about the ones that made their list that I have...

1.The Roots- Rising Down

2. Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

3. Nas- Untitled

4. Elzhi- The Preface

5. T.I.- Paper Trail

6. Q-Tip- The Renaissance

7. Ludacris- Theater of the Mind

8. Scarface- Emeritus

9. Kanye West- 808 Heartbreak

Since I listen to very little R&B, no country, pop, rock, gospel...you tell me who dropped some of your favorite albums in ' 08.

(btw...I would ask for your top 5 but I'm sure that SOME of y'all would give me your top 45! LOL)

hollatchaboi!!

I skipped on the Gnarles Barkley but i heard it was very good. I've only purchased NaS. Everybody else that i bought this year was ole skool.

    @ e
I agree. Very little "hip hop". Just a bunch of rap. Wayne surprised me with his effort but I wouldn't call that hip hop.

Wonder how many people will say Sasha Fierce was a great album? LoL

  8. I enjoyed Ne-Yo's new CD, John Legend was just OK

The Best of 08, tho? Nas... definitely... before his latest albulm I only liked him in passing, admired his delivery, flow, all that, but found him kinda arrogant and pompous. Then Untitled came into my life. Now I'm a really for real fan!

  9. Top albums of 2008? Hmmm, let me see. If I can catch Anthony Hamilton's CD in a store at some point, I'm sure it will be on my list.
Here are my pics in no particular order:

Love Behind the Melody - Raheem DeVaughn

    Purpose - Algebra

    Here I Stand - Usher

    Evolver - John Legend

Jennifer Hudson - Jennifer Hudson (I don't care what anyone says, this was a great first project)

After My Time - Noel Gourdin

The Quilt - Gym Class Heroes (I love those guys)

    and ...
Stand Out - Tye Tribett & G.A. (I love gospel music)

That's eight and that's all I've gotten this year. Music is starting to suck!

  12. Scarface and Luda get my votes.

Face because he reps Houston, and Luda because he is the one celeb I have ever crushed on. I'm STILL pissed they didn't put him on that Swagger Like Us joint. He sooooo would have killed it!

Oh yeah...Jamie Foxx's CD is kinda hawt.

    John Legend's sucks

  14. Okay, hottest album to me in o8 WITHOUT QUESTION would be the Forgiven Exchange "Leave It All Behind". The songs dipped and dived all over the hip hop, R&B, jazz lines so perfectly. Real grown folk music right there.

I was really diggin Gnarls Barkley this year too. "Going On" was my jam!!

I am a downloader because I can't fathom buying an entire CD only to like 3 or 4 songs on it, so the songs that have been in heavy rotation this year:

    "Paper Planes" by MIA
    "Say" by John Mayer
    "Closer" by Neyo
"Take Off The Blues" by Foreign Exchange
"Something To Behold" by Foreign Exchange
    "Daykeeper" by Foreign Exchange
(Lets just say that whole album)
    "Energy" by Keri Hilson
    "Realize" by Colbie Caillat
    "Addiction" by Ryan Leslie

Alright, I will stop now... hehehe

  20. I have some shopping to do. Y'all named a lot of artists I like (Qtip, Common, NaS, Scarface, and the list goes on and on) but based on the radio play and songs I've heard floating around, I haven't wanted to buy any albums. I've been buying a lot of old school off itunes though.

I don't have a top album for this year. A lot of good stuff came out at the latter part of the year, so I can't really say.

I need to look up Foreign Exchange. Never heard of them.

    Obviously my Beyonce'c- I Am...
    Neyo- Year of the Gentleman
    Solange- sol angel
    Jazmine Sullivan- Fearless
    Karina- first love

but that's it. IT was a good year for music, but not so much at the same time. The old timers didn't really do much. Like everyone on my list is practically new
