"C'mon Daddy, you're taking too long."
Those were the words spoken to me by my soon to be 9 yr old son, Deion. He was in a hurry to attend the open house orientation at his elementary school. He and his brother, Kameron go back to school on Monday. The summer vacation is over. Time to go back to school.
You'd think that he would want a few more days of summer vacation. He could stay up late and he didn't have to do any homework. No. Not him. He's ready to go back to school.
As we walked the hallways at his school. I kept hearing the same things...
"Hey Deion."
"Whussup, Deion."
Well, it didn't take me long to realize that this kid is like the mayor or something. He knows everybody and everybody knows him. The only thing that he didn't do was shake hands and kiss some babies. He had a huge grin on his face when he met his 4th grade teacher. He picked out "his seat" and he told her that he couldn't wait until Monday morning. I don't ever remember being this pumped up for school. LOL
The first day of school always brings back good memories for me. Much like him, there'd be a lotta "hello's and high fives". I remember a lotta stuff...checkin' out the new chicks, rockin your new school clothes, crackin jokes on the bus, notebooks and #2 pencils.
One embarrassing memory was in 7th grade...this chick had her period for the 1st time...and she had on white pants!!! Haaaaaaaaa. Classic
You got any back to school memories??? Hollatchaboi!!!
FIRST!
ReplyDelete...love doin' that? LOL!
It's great that your sons are looking forward to the first day of school. That's great! I was the saaame way. I'm feelin' bad for the chica that got her period in class. People don't forget stuff like that---obviously. I remember laying out what I was going to wear on the first day of school weeks before school even started. I would be so excited to walk down the halls lookin' all fresh and fly. Those were the days.
Hey Brother!
ReplyDeleteI think he gets it from his daddy...you're like the mayor in blogland....lol....It's good that he is excited about school...I surely pray he keeps that attitude all the way...to graduate school....and beyond....we need as many black educated men as possible.....
So the one memory I have is 5th grade when my mama made me where those green corduroy pants...and that stupid turtle neck!....STOP LAUGHING GUYS...IT'S NOT FUNNY!....lol
I wrote a textscriptz about those green pants before...think I'll post it as a Say it Again Sistah Kitten....thanks for inspiring me once again Bro!
awww
ReplyDeletelol @ kissin babies
i was too hype for school to start too
I aint gone even lie, im ready to go back to skool rite now at this very moment...im missing my college life...lol
ReplyDeleteI loved the first day of school after summer break especially in Elementary and JHS. I do remember that our principal always had a long speech for us.
ReplyDeleteI also loved going back after break in college, because my friends and I NEVER got to speak as they were all over the country.
I can't wait for CJ to start school, I wonder if he is going to be like me and just say "Bye Mommy" or will I have to stay half the day...
Nah, I don't really have any memories - it all seemed to have gone soooo damn fast for me.
ReplyDeleteMy semester starts on the 25th though - I've got four classes and a full time management job - I'm sure there will be memories created soon though.
@ B
ReplyDeleteYou've been here for a couple of days and now you're first! lol
Everytime that I see that chick...I think about that incident.
I feel you on the fly school gear
@ Keisha the Kitten
LoL!!! Thank you! I'm not the mayor of blogland. Not yet...
Aw man, your moms was wrong for that
@ dejanae
This lil dude is pretty popular. I was surprised
@ kandi black
You are still in school. Enjoy this time. It will pass right before your eyes
@ The F$%K it List
I loved going back to college. I would be amazed at how people's looks changed over the summer. Some folks got fat...and some got fine! LOL
I can see you crying after dropping CJ off at school
Nah, I don't really have any memories - it all seemed to have gone soooo damn fast for me.

that's awesome that your kid is so hype about school. the popularity thang is cool too, but that ain't what makes the grade, knowhatimean?
ReplyDeleteback to school memories? too many to count, hell, it seems like i've been in school forever!
I used to looooove the first day of school!!! I had so many good memories. I think my favorite one was when I was going into the sixth grade and I wore this now hideous sweater. It was my most prized-possesion out of all of my back-to-school clothes that year. It had a checkerboard, pom-poms, and a bunch of other ugly 80s stuff on it! I remember getting a ton of compliments!! Good times!
ReplyDeleteUmm... Here it was soooo taboo to wear your brand new clothes for the 1st week. We would get clowned for that! I liked elementary school but middle school was different. Too many fresh boys trying to grab my butt when we changed classes. Damn the curse of being developed in middle school. Haaaaaa!
ReplyDeletei got a phone call home on the 2nd day of school in 7th grade for sitting on a boys lap.
ReplyDeletei swear for god the principal had my number on a post-it note on her desk.
-KB
I remember one of the girls in my 4th grade class walking across the mud to get to the basketball court to talk to the cute boys in our class and she LOST her shoes in the mud!! The rest of us girls just drooled as one of the boys carried her back across the mud and salvaged her shoes - It was so cute and funny @ the same time!
ReplyDelete@ Darius
ReplyDeleteYou're going to school full time and working, too? Wow! Big ^ to you.
@ L
Dr L! You've been is school for a lonnng time. LoL
@ BGG
Checkerboard pom poms? LOL. Those were the good ole days
@ Dione
It was taboo at my high school to rock new clothes the 1st week of school. I know exactly what you mean.
@ karrie b
You were sitting on the boys laps???? Hmmmmm. SMH!!! You were buckwild back then, huh?
@ trina
Welcome to the 12th Planet. Make sure that you come back. We have a lotta fun over here. We're here every day like the school bully.
Awwww! That was so nice of that kid. I was too mischievous to do something like that but I like that story. LOL
LOL. That's really cute!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKyle you'd make a great blogland mayor -- all around good guy, quiet confidence, and diplomatic.
ReplyDeleteSchool memories -- the first thing that jumped out at me was running through the halls in 8th Grade with Edward Baldwin and William Parker "scooping" girls booty's. It was childish, but fun.
never really got pumped for the first day of school. mostly because i did not have the same things to look forward to like other people. i did not have a bunch of new clothes or a new book bag or anything like that. i might have had a few shirts and a new pair of shoes but that is about it. its not that the couldnt get it for me, the just wouldnt. if i wanted some new clothes i had to get them myself. but i am glad my parents did not waste that money on me then. makes me appreciate the things i had then and now.
ReplyDeleteyea man, summer over already was at a meeting yest at Grady HS for my son
ReplyDeleteFrom grade school, I just remember always wanting to wear my new clothes and shoes, and wondering if the teacher was going to give out candy and snacks (random). Also, I remember always wanting the big box of crayons (i.e. the 100 count) b/c that was a status symbol...how stupid...I never did make it to the 100 count...my mom was cheap.
ReplyDeleteFrom high school, I remember wanting to wear my new clothes and shoes (again), but also having my nails and hair FRESH!!! OMG, the days. Also, having the cute, girly folders and stuff like that...of course, it had to be pink with me :)
From college, I just remember wanting to see all my friends and going to the latest parties, football games, etc...however, freshman year, I worried about a lot more (i.e. will I like my roommate, will I fit in, will I like my major, who has the best parties, will my momma think she can just show up anytime since my school isn't that far).
lol naw...he was my friend. i wasn't acting like a baby whore or anything.
ReplyDelete-KB
the shakes, nervous tummy, couldn't eat breakfast, avoiding the crowds, hoping to be unnoticed...running home
ReplyDeletedoesnt sound too great
I loved going back to school to rock by new gear!
ReplyDeleteThe first day of high school was fun. I had a cast on my foot, my left ankle was reconstructed and all my socks matched my outfits and all the upperclassmen would comment how cute it was!lol
The first day of 11th grade I had my road test at 1:30. I told my friends if I passed I would dangle my keys in the window of their last period class, if I failed they needed to come straight to my house! Well, I passed and picked up all my girls and drove around in my mom's new whip like I was the shiznit!!!
Dang! I forgot they go back to school so early in the south!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in 9th grade LaToya's tampon fell out of her in gym class! she ran for the door! and the gym teacher started kicking the tampon to the garbage! LOL it was some funny sh!t i'll never forget that one! LOL
@TravelDiva
ReplyDeleteThanks

@ karrie b
ReplyDeleteGood! Don't wanna see you acting like a baby whore in the 7th grade
@ PCD
school had you shook like that???
@ ShellyShell
There was nothing cooler than a chick who had a set of wheels in high school
@ Sexxy Luv
I'll bet that memory STILL haunts her! haaaaaa
I loved going back to school when I was in elementary school. We didn't have the normal 3 month summer vacations, my school was on a track system where we were 3 months on, one month off. I kinda liked it that way too because my family wasn't the richest in the world so we weren't pressured to come to school in the latest fashions.... we were off for a month and came right back!
ReplyDeleteIn high school, I just wanted to get the heck out!! If I could have taken my GED to avoid having to go to that darn school any longer than I had to, I would have.
I am glad that little man is looking forward to it. In regards to his popularity... like father, like son.
Great Post...I remember the first time I was able to walk to school by myself. I was in the 4th grade and the school was like 6 blocks away....it was a straight shot. My mother let me walk out of the house....and I made it school safe with no problem.
ReplyDeleteI walked back home from school and my told me she followed me to school just to be safe. My mother loves me
I loved "going back to school"...the first day of school, wearing my new fly outfits and new materials. I think i loved my first day of high school the best...I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, yeah, and boys, boys, boys! lol!
ReplyDeleteThe thought of it makes me want to cry. That's why we are looking at preschools that have web access so I can see what he is doing. hehehe
ReplyDeleteI always loved the first day of school...everybody was rockin their fresh haircuts and all. The girls came back each year, a little
ReplyDeletemore developed than the year before...and of course people rocked their new clothes. (By the time I was a Senior ,nobody was doing that anymore.)
wha's crackin' Daddy K? sounds like your son is following your footsteps!
ReplyDelete& that white pants thang brought back a PAINful memory.... prolly one of the reasons i no longer WEAR white... LOL!
too bad i didn't get to holla atcha last week - but it was too dayum hot to do much more than i did while in your city;-). u know i got luv for ya!
oh yea to answer your question: i loved school - still do! just wish it didn't have to start so dayummm early in the morning!
ReplyDeletebut like Miz - my HS focus was da FELLAS - especially those we saw on the WAY to school! LOL!
@ Mika
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about that off and on. That sounds pretty cool. I think I would've liked that. I think my parents would have too.
Thanks, lil sis!!!
@ dessex
Man, that's when you KNEW that you were a "big kid" when you could walk home from school.
@ miz
I'll bet you were off the chain in high school
@ The F$%K it List
Yep! You'll be cryin'. Lol
@ Keith
Remember how some girls got "fine" over the summer?
@ Cap
Whussup witcha?
